Microsoft is 30 years old today! have a look at the Microsoft Timeline

It's hard to believe that Microsoft is already 30 years old. The company that made Redmond, Washington, a household name was actually founded in 1975 in another city by two young Seattle men, one of whom was a college dropout. From this inauspicious beginning came an equally improbable vision: A personal computer on every desk and in every home. Thirty years later, it seems so obvious. But at the time, when only a handful of people knew what a personal computer was, it was a great leap of faith and daring.

Facebook users targeted by botnet spam

Facebook users have been targeted by a large-scale spam attack that informs them that their password has been reset, and that the attached zip archive contains their new password. Instead of a new password, users will find a trojan downloader, dubbed "Bredlab" or "Bredolab" by anti-virus companies. The downloader then downloads additional malware from two servers, including fake anti-virus software, and joins the Bredolab botnet. This gives attackers full control of the PC, allowing them to steal user information or use the PC to send spam emails. One of the servers is based in the Netherlands, with the other in Kazakhstan, according to an alert on Websense, a security research company.

After going widescreen last month, YouTube has now updated its UI and added a rather large search bar to every embedded video. As you can see from the embedded video below, there is now a big search bar across the top section of the video. The whole site has had a UI overhaul to refine the look of YouTube. There is no mention of the changes, which will likely be criticised, on the YouTube blog. Yesterday YouTube announced stricter standards for mature content. In a blog posting, the company announced plans to age-restrict "sexually suggestive" content.

YouTube launches 'Adopt a Feature'

YouTube has a lot of features, and sadly, not everybody knows about them. YouTube-owner Google is aware of this, and has decided to utilize YouTube's well established community to promote the less popular features, in order to get them used more often. They've dubbed this new service 'Adopt a Feature', and anybody can contribute. According to YouTube's blog post, this is how it will happen: 1. Select one or more features from the list below . 2. Make a video about that feature (of course, it must adhere to our Terms of Service) and be sure to use the precise tags we've indicated for each feature. 3.

EMI has signed a deal with YouTube that will allow its users to access videos by EMI artists.

It means all four of the world's major music firms are now YouTube partners. The terms of the agreement should eventually allow users to incorporate recordings by EMI artists into their own projects.

The deal follows a string of lawsuits by companies who accuse YouTube of allowing its users to pirate their copyrighted works. The biggest threat comes from entertainment giant Viacom Media which is suing YouTube for $1bn (£505m). The US group - which owns MTV and Nickelodeon - claims that the website uses its shows illegally. ..

YouTube and Warner split

Today marked the start of something that could potentially be crippling to YouTube's new revenue endorsements. YouTube and Warner Music failed to reach an agreement to keep their content on the most popular video web site today, after Warner's contract ended with YouTube. The disagreement lies with Warner Music wanting more revenue off of each hit on videos posted by the music giant, even if YouTube doesn't bring in any revenue from the video itself, but both YouTube and Warner Music take blame for not reaching an agreement. The decision to boost profit off of each hit to support artists and song writers doesn't come as a surprise in a falling economy.

YouTube opens beta of TV-maximized site

Bringing YouTube to the living room television has been a mostly incomplete mission thus far. Yesterday, YouTube announced youtube.com/tv, a new sub-site dedicated to bringing its content to connected devices, namely the PS3 and Wii.

"Very few...devices today contain a Web browser or provide access to YouTube," reads a YouTube Team blog post yesterday, "Our hope is that this site may help to accelerate an industry evolution towards open television access to Web video.
