12.07.2007Soviet Union Domain Still Kicking
The Soviet Union may be in the dustbin of history, but sixteen years after the superpower's collapse, Web sites ending in the Soviet ".su"
domain name have been rising. Registrations increased 45% this year alone as bloggers, entrepreneurs and die-hard communists all acted as part of a
small but growing online community resisting repeated efforts to extinguish the online Soviet outpost. Many Web entrepreneurs also see potential
profits in the domain, grabbing instantly recognizable names already claimed in other, better known domains. Vladimir Khramov, a network administrator
from Moscow, said he bought "microsoft.su" last year simply to acquire an easy-to-remember ending for his e-mail address.

02.07.2008Five reasons why XP will never die
Preston Gralla: Microsoft is doing its best to kill Windows XP, but that's not going to happen. No matter what the company does, the operating system
will live on. Here are five reasons why XP will never die.
Enterprises want XP
There's no escaping the
simple fact that enterprises have snubbed Vista, and show no signs of abandoning XP. Just a few days ago, Forrester said that a survey of 50,000
enterprise users found that throughout 2007, Windows XP use remained at a steady 89%. Vista grew from zero to 6% in that same time, but that came
about because users moved from Windows 2000 to Vista, not from XP to Vista. Don't expect corporations to switch to Vista from XP in 2008.

24.09.2005Windows XP going off market in June: What it means
Well it looks like XP is about to disappear from stores coming this June. Oh what shall I do If I still don't want to migrate to Vista? Well
actually it will probably still be for sale in stores and such but Microsoft itself will no longer sell it. Read on.
Microsoft originally
announced over a year ago that Windows XP would be going off the market in January 2008. XP was later given a brief stay of execution, to June 30,
2008. That deadline is fast approaching, which has led to much panicking from people who aren't quite sure what XP's "going off market"
means, exactly.
People are still as confused as ever. So let's take a stab at clarifying, once again, what's going to happen by
answering some frequently asked questions about XP's imminent disappearance.

07.10.2005OEMs to Continue Shipping XP
If you already own an XP license and are still hesitant to switch to Vista, Microsoft's "downgrade rights" policy, which initially began to be
exercised in 2001, may be in your favor if you would still like to purchase a machine running Windows XP after the June 30, 2008 deadline when
Microsoft will stop offering the operating system. OEMs such as Dell have said that they still have no plans to stop offering XP as an option:
"Dell has the ability to exercise 'Windows Vista downgrade rights' on your behalf in the factory if your business is still reliant upon
Windows XP and you'd prefer to have Windows XP Professional preinstalled on your PCs," according to their new downgrade policy section for XP.
"Downgrade Rights means that anyone with a Windows Vista Business or Windows Vista Ultimate operating system can downgrade to Windows XP
Professional provided they have the media for Windows XP Professional."

Microsoft has released updated bits of Windows XP Mode for Windows 7. XP Mode is a method to provide better compatibility in Windows 7, and to pull
it off with as little trouble as possible. It's also dubbed XPM, or formerly Virtual XP. XPM is built on the next generation Microsoft Virtual PC
7 product line, which requires processor-based virtualization support (Intel and AMD) to be present and enabled on the underlying PC, much like
Hyper-V, Microsoft's server-side virtualization platform. XP Mode will bring a Virtual PC-based environment, as well as a fully licensed version
of Windows XP SP3, free for all owners of Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate editions. XPM will provide 100% compatibility with Windows
XP.
