SP3 will do nothing for XP, but still more than what SP1 will do for Vista - The third and final service pack for Windows XP will do little to nothing for the operating system, but will manage to deliver a superior boost to the platform's momentum in comparison to Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista.

21.06.2007Editorial: Three ways to a cleaner, brighter Mac
The presupposition that Macs are the choice for the user who wants a hassle free, take it out of the box and get on with it experience is simply a
lie. This may very well be the experience Mac users get for a while, but soon enough the system (like every other computer) becomes a little sluggish,
and not as speedy as it was in its younger days. Increasingly, it is becoming apparent that if a user requires their Mac for anything other than
rudimentary tasks, it has to have a deep clean every now and again otherwise it will get a little sluggish.

13.08.2008PCWorld : The 10 Most Overrated Products
An interesting slide show from PCWorld about the 10 Most Overrated Products against Underrated ones.
Hype springs eternal. Lots of
technologies, products and services don't merit the praise heaped on them. Here are 10 tech items that don't live up to their billing -- and
10 that deserve respect that they don't receive. Worth a check out.
One comparision among the many : PCWorld feels XP is overated and
Vista under-rated.
"Save Windows XP! is the rallying cry of Windows users dismayed by the needless bloat of Vista. But didn't
everyone have the same critique of Windows XP when it first galumphed into public view like an unsteady rubber monster?
What did Vista get
right? For starters, though the User Account Control feature is like an annoying little sister who constantly pokes you, it makes Vista more secure
than XP. Vista also trounces XP in handling mobile devices, networking, multimedia files and photos. On top of that, it has a cleaner, more
navigable interface -- one eerily reminiscent of a certain Mac operating system."

23.04.2008Google Plugs Account Hijack Holes
Had Google left the the
cross-site scripting (XSS)
vulnerability unpatched,
hackers could have modified
third-party Google documents
and spreadsheets as well as
had access to e-mail subjects
and search history.
According to Philipp
Lenssen, the author of Google
Blogoscoped, the first Google
Custom Domains vulnerability
allowed Tony Ruscoe (another
Google expert) to create a
page that was hosted on a
Google.com domain. Ruscoe
proved that he could have used
code to steal a user's Google
cookie and access their Google
services. The second
vulnerability, reported by
Lenssen, would also have
enabled a hacker to use
JavaScript code to pass cookie
data to an external source.
Google hit two
birds with one stone according
to a representative: "Google
was alerted to these issues,
and we worked quickly to fix
the problems, which have been
resolved. We have not received
any reports of user data being
compromised."

17.01.2007AOL To Let Users Opt Out of Targetted Ads
Time Warner Incs AOL Internet division said on Wednesday that it would let users opt out of online advertisements that are presented to individuals
based on the Web sites they have visited. Such behaviorally targeted ads use "cookies," information that identifies a computer, to keep
track of where the user has visited online and send that person commercial messages accordingly.
Internet publishers say this system lets
users get ads for products they may be interested in rather than sending useless information, but consumer advocates say it is yet another potential
violation of privacy online. AOLs program will point consumers to the right place to block such ads. Choosing to opt out sends a cookie to a users
computer that blocks the ads from appearing. AOLs system prevents the deletion of the opt-out cookie. The program will also send "millions"
of public service banner ads explaining the policy across the companys own Web sites and on those in which it sells ads.

02.07.2008Five reasons why XP will never die
Preston Gralla: Microsoft is doing its best to kill Windows XP, but that's not going to happen. No matter what the company does, the operating system
will live on. Here are five reasons why XP will never die.
Enterprises want XP
There's no escaping the
simple fact that enterprises have snubbed Vista, and show no signs of abandoning XP. Just a few days ago, Forrester said that a survey of 50,000
enterprise users found that throughout 2007, Windows XP use remained at a steady 89%. Vista grew from zero to 6% in that same time, but that came
about because users moved from Windows 2000 to Vista, not from XP to Vista. Don't expect corporations to switch to Vista from XP in 2008.

24.09.2005Windows XP going off market in June: What it means
Well it looks like XP is about to disappear from stores coming this June. Oh what shall I do If I still don't want to migrate to Vista? Well
actually it will probably still be for sale in stores and such but Microsoft itself will no longer sell it. Read on.
Microsoft originally
announced over a year ago that Windows XP would be going off the market in January 2008. XP was later given a brief stay of execution, to June 30,
2008. That deadline is fast approaching, which has led to much panicking from people who aren't quite sure what XP's "going off market"
means, exactly.
People are still as confused as ever. So let's take a stab at clarifying, once again, what's going to happen by
answering some frequently asked questions about XP's imminent disappearance.
