Microsoft to release fixes for
Windows flaws
As part of its monthly
patching cycle, Microsoft on
Tuesday plans to release one
security alert for flaws in
the Windows operating
system.
Th

"critical," Microsoft's
highest risk rating, the
company said

spx]in a notice posted on its
Web site on Thursday. Last
month's "Patch Tuesday"
also included a critical alert
for Windows flaws. One of the
flaws was exploited days later
by the Zotob worm that wreaked
havoc on Windows 2000 systems
worldwide.
Microsof
t's Thursday notice did not
specify whether one of the
patches will be for Internet
Explorer. Over the last few
weeks, several security
researchers have come forward
with flaws in the Web browser.
Some of these vulnerabilities
could let an attacker gain
control of a user's
PC.
There are
several unpatched
vulnerabilities in IE 6,
according to Secunia. The
security monitoring company
has issued 85 alerts on the
Web browser since 2003; 19 of

Windows Vista Build 5219
Ultimate Edition - Quick
Review
The
Facts:
Build
String:
5219.winmain_idx02.050830-2010
ISO Size:
2.73 GB (2,937,989,120
bytes)
On Tuesday
at PDC (Professional
Developers Conference)
Microsoft proudly unveiled the
latest incarnation of its new
flagship desktop operating
system. Windows Vista build
5219 is to date the most
complete and stunning look at
this new next-generation OS
we've seen yet.
It
seems that with every major
release so far of Vista we've
had a bit of controversy. This
time it was leaked screenshots
that were from another build
date of 5219. Those shots show
quite a number of things that
you won't see with this build
(or they're just disabled by
default). It will come as a
disappointment to many of you
who were looking forward to
all of those features. Fear
not though, there are many
many changes in this PDC build
that will keep you poking
around for quite some
time.
I've had the
opportunity to play with this
build some and can report a
few changes before we get
started taking a look at
it.

The

number of users before its
final release, may be viewed
as a threat by Microsoft to
its Outlook e-mail software.
It mimics many Outlook
features, including preview
panes that allow e-mails to be
viewed without being opened, a
one-button delete feature and
the ability to drag and drop
