Update for WLM version
Windows Live Messenger v8.0.0562 was released exclusively to selected Beta-testers earlier this month. Fortunately for WLM users (including invitees) a new build very similar to 0562 is now imminent.
It could've been released already, if it wasn't for weather-inflicted damage to many offices in Redmond last weekend. So, if you're currently using Windows Live Messenger 8.0.0365, expect an auto-update prompt in one of the next couple of days.

6.1.2009WLM 562 Cleared Up
With the release of Windows
Live Messenger build 562 just
a few weeks ago, many of the
testers were in speculation
that it was a full update, but
we were wrong.
The 562 build was in fact
just a preview of the final
refresh. It turns out that the
562 build only contained some
of the minor updates and was
only a small update for the
current testers. The full
refresh is expected to have
many more updates and should
come "real soon now".
"The 562 build some
of you got was a preview of
the final update build. There
are only a few differences
from that build but I don't
want to spoil any surprises"
said the WLM team.
The final refresh is
suppose to come via automated
update when you sign into WLM.
However the update is expected
to be slightly delayed from
the originally planned date
due to a flooding problem
after a water line dumped
hundreds of gallons of watter
into the 1st floor offices of
the redmon building including
the WLM team offices.
In the meanwhile,
the employees have been
grouped into offices and
workers are working quick to
dry the building and get it in
working condition again.

23.02.2006Bonus WLM Invites Sent Out
On Friday, Microsoft once
again started sending out
additional invitations for
WLM. The company is trying to
increase the amount of testers
in the beta drastically, as
some users have received up to
ten bonus invites within one
day. If you are in the beta an
you have not checked you
e-mail inbox yet, that may be
a good idea as you will
probably have two or three
e-mails from the WLM beta team
notifying you about your extra
invites.
We
would like to remind users
here at JCXP that at the
moment we are giving away a
large amount of Windows Live
Messenger invitations. However
you must be a registered and
active member to qualify for
the give away.

11.01.2006Are you missing some icons?
So you downloaded the new
8.0.0689 refresh, you sign in
and all is well. You sign out
and then sign in again some
time... but wait, where did
some of your icons go?
The WLM Beta team
received several reports from
users that some of their
dashboard icons and features
were missing when signing in
the second time and every time
after.
The
problem was a result of errors
within some of the programs
entry points which caused them
to vanish. However, the
problem was fixed by the team
and a fix has been sent out.
For the fix to apply, you must
sign out of WLM and sign back
in. If your icons are not
back, you have to wait about
30-60 more minutes and then
try again as it takes time for
the fix to reach every
country.

05.05.2006PINNED: WLM Build 566 Comming
Soon
Remember that little talk
about how the 562 build of
Windows Live Messenger was
just a preview; well here
comes the bride... I mean the
build. Build 566 of WLM is to
be released on February 28th
according to the WLM team
blog.
The
build will feature some
noticeable updates, mainly the
layout of the Contact List,
the tabs have now been
repositioned inside the main
window, the spacing between
each contact has been reduced
to allow more contacts to be
viewable in the window (= less
scrolling) and the avatar
preview and display
name/personal messages boxes
are finally back to the left
side again.
A
few of the minor updates
include the fact that the
menus are now only available
through the drop down menu,
meaning you can no longer
expand or minimize the window
frame like before. Also, the
ink/type tabs in the
conversation window have been
moved to the right side closer
to your display picture.
It has also been
announced that the WLM team is
working on new status icons
that both look good and show
the status at the same
time.

28.02.2006Yahoo! and WLM Integration
Coming Soon?
Many Windows Live Users today
might have noticed that they
were booted off of the
messenger servers and then
were unable to sign in again
for almost 2 hours.
At first glance, it
appeared to be a simple
temporary problem with the
servers. Once the stability of
the servers returned to
normal, users were greeted
with a new build of WLM,
8.0.0792. (See Below).
Well all these
server downtimes and new
builds were not just for
nothing. Popular messenger fan
site mess.be discovered some
new changes in this new build
that show WLM is in fact fully
ready to work with Yahoo!
contacts.
The
only thing holding users back
from adding and chatting with
Yahoo! messenger contacts is
the fact that the server's
MSP14 protocol has yet to have
been turned on which is
what's blocking Yahoo! + WLM
interoperability.
Some people have already
created proxy's which trick
messenger into thinking it is
using the MSP14 protocol which
enables many of the Yahoo!
features within WLM, however
the ability to chat is still
not present.
More to come...

26.06.2006Windows Live Messenger 8.5 Gets an Update
Today, users running Windows
Live Messenger 8.5 Beta were
greeted with an update
entitled "Windows Live
Messenger 8.5 Beta 1 Update
1" via Windows Update.
The
update description notes that
there are no changes to
Messenger it self, and that it
is simply an update to aid in
testing how Messenger receives
its updates. Although no new
version is available yet, the
nature of the update suggests
that we may be seeing one
soon.
You
do not need to uninstall any
previous versions before
updating, nor will you have to
reboot your system. The update
brings WLM's build up to
8.5.1238 (from 1235).

22.06.2007PINNED: WLM Build 0683 Leaked
Early this month, screenshots
of a new build featuring a
completely revamped UI leaked
to the web. Well today the
rest of the story leaked to
the web, including the build.
The new build
(marked as 8.0.0683) leaked
earlier today. This build does
in fact have the new
anticipated UI as well as many
new features. One of which is
a new feature that joins
repeated message sends into
one large message. Also
included in this build are new
sounds for "New Alert",
"Contact Signs on", and
"New Mail".
The other most noticeable
feature is the new status
icons that users have been
waiting for. They are
basically a mix between the
old 7.5 icons and icons from
previous builds of WLM.
All in all, this
build is one big leap from the
current official release
8.0.0566.

18.04.2006Windows Live Messenger - Why
so many invites?
Have you been getting a lot of
invites for WLM recently? This
is due to the fact that
Microsoft has recently been
updating their service system.
They have been giving out a
large amount of invites so
they can test whether the new
system can handle the 180
million+ users on MSN
Messenger.
Microsoft recently hit their
first target number, so they
decided to give out more
invites so they can hit their
next target number. Giving out
more invites makes sure that
more people will join the
beta, and will also help
Microsoft test their servers
for stability.
On that note, there are
still many people who want to
join the WLM Beta. Microsoft
has opened up its WLM service
to anyone who wants to join at
the
Windows Live
Ideas Homepage. However,
there is a catch. Once you
sign up for the beta by
scrolling down, and clicking
"sign up", you won't be
able to automatically be able
to use WLM, but be on the list
for an invite on Microsoft's
next round of invites.
The exact date of
the next release is still
unknown, but Microsoft
promises us to give out
multiple releases this year.

information on the next..next
upcoming version of Windows
Live Messenger.
They received a screenshot
which features an inlook at
their attempt on Integrated
Polygamy.
I'm
sure some of you are thinking,
what the heck is polygamy?
Polygamy, now, is a 3rd party
patch which allows you to
execute multiple exe's of WLM
so you can sign-in to more
than one account. Windows Live
Messenger 8.2 is to have this
feature integrated into
itself.
Please note this
information is unconfirmed and
may very well be false as no
official information has been

12.09.2006Yahoo integration in WLM8 Soon
Some news has come in that
Windows Live Messenger 8 with
Yahoo interoperability will be
coming soon. The
interoperability will allow
users on both services to send
basic IM's to one another,
and see each other's
status.
Leah (a
member of the WLM8 team) has
posted on her blog that this
feature will be out soon, but
no date was given. Nor was a
date given for the final
release of WLM8, however it
was mentioned that she tried a
fully functional version of
WLM which could exchange IMs
with a fully functional
version of Yahoo! but work is
still needed and a lot of
testing as well.

05.06.2006Virus Posing As Messenger
Plus! Live
The virus is posing as
MsgPlusLive 4.0.2006.0566,
well the latest WLM version is
566, and the year is 2006 so
it looks ok, but I can ensure
this is not the correct
version.
In
fact, there is no leak of the
program what so ever and if
there were, you would not be
able to sign in. Please be
careful what you find, when
the program is out you can
finally use it, although it
maybe a while.
A lot of people are looking
forward to this amazing
update, and i'm sure it will
be well worth the wait.
Be careful
what you

23.03.2006PINNED: WLM User Interface
Finalized!
One of the largest concerns
since the beginning of the
BETA test for WLM has been the
UI (User Interface). Most
testers had the same opinion,
in the first build that the UI
was too childish and that in
the latest build it's too
"MSN Messenger 7.5ish".
Well today, it seems
the LiveSide found and
released screenshots of what
they say is most likely the
final UI for Windows Live
Messenger. With significant
improvements, the UI now
features a "Glass" like
design as well as the highly
anticipated new status
icons.
It also
appears that the WLM logo has
been changed again and now
follows the Windows Vista
pattern of a round orb with
the Vista Flag within it.
LiveSide also
mentioned a new Voice Mail
feature but have not yet
released any additional
information on it. We will
bring you the latest news on
this as it is released.

31.03.2006Microsoft tests WLMessenger updates via Windows Update
Using Windows Update,
Microsoft has quietly rolled
out an update for beta testers
using the next version of
Windows Live Messenger. The
obvious advantage is having
the option of being able to
update yet another Microsoft
product in the same familiar
place. The Windows Update
client in Vista downloads the
update, creates a restore
point, install the update -
and it can do this all without
any user-interaction, if you
should choose to. The
description of WLM 8.5 Beta 1
Update 1 is as follows:
“ This update is being
used to test how Microsoft
Updates are distributed for
Windows Live Messenger. While
there are no actual changes to
Messenger at this time, it's
important for Messenger Beta
testers to receive this
update. Thanks for helping
test Messenger! ”
There may not be any
“actual changes”
but nevertheless the build
number has changed from
8.5.1235.0517 to
8.5.1238.0601. The update
seemed to go fine for me, what
about you?

23.06.2007Old Plus! Meets New WLM
It seems that a few guys over
at mess.be have been digging
out their old builds of
Messenger Plus! and to their
suprise have found that
certain Plus! builds are
around 80% fully compatible
with the latest WLM build
562.
Messenger Plus!
3.61 (released in October, get
it
here)
and older versions do work
with 8.0.0562, although
limited to a small set of
features like the Messenger
lock and the boss key and most
likely a few other minor
features.
Patchou however, does not
recommend this combo and
advises to uninstall Plus! as
soon as WLM starts behaving
strangely.
Patchou has already started
developing Messenger Plus!
Live specifically for Windows
Live Messenger which we
previously reported back in
December
2005.

12.02.2006Windows Live Messenger Goes Final and More
After a year in the making, the Windows Live Messenger production has come to an end, and to the delight of thousands of people.
The
Download Page has been updated with build 353 (the final version) and is
available for download now. It hasn't been extensively tested yet, but it's presumable that the countless bugs testers received in previous betas
have been resolved; most notably several serious problems that were spotted when running it with Windows 7.
Complimenting the release of
WLM 2009, the "Messenger Plus!" team has announced a release of the compatible (build 4.80) version of the patcher to be before the end of the
month.
This seems promising. Hopefully the two will work well together, and we can FINALLY get what we've been asking for in the entire
WLM experience.

And the most common
issue was users reporting that

Well don't worry
about it, these are just a few
temporary problems with the
