Windows Codenamed Mojave Closer to Vista SP1 than Even Windows 7
Windows codenamed Mojave is just around the corner and closer to Windows Vista Service Pack 1 than even Windows 7. The Reason for this is that Windows 7 is merely an evolution of the latest Windows client, while Windows codenamed Mojave is actually 100% Vista.

For those new to the Mojave Experiment,
it's a focus group effort we initiated a few weeks ago. We interviewed and polled 120 participants in San Francisco, in hopes of better understanding

reacted to Windows Vista when they were not aware they were seeing Windows Vista. We recorded our discussions, and today you can see them for

Spurred by an e-mail from someone deep in the marketing ranks, Microsoft last week traveled to San Francisco, rounding
up Windows XP users who had negative impressions of Vista. The subjects were put on video, asked about their Vista impressions, and then shown a
"new" operating system, code-named Mojave. More than 90 percent gave positive feedback on what they saw. Then they were told that "Mojave" was
actually Windows Vista.

24.07.2008Mojave experiment gets a Web site
Evidently spurred on by the reception it got at Thursday's financial analysts meeting, Microsoft has decided to move ahead with plans to turn the
Mojave project into a full-fledged Windows Vista marketing effort.
As
first reported by CNET News, Microsoft last week
interviewed XP users who were skeptical of Vista and showed them what it called a secret new version of Windows, "Mojave." It was in fact Vista.
The results, according to Microsoft executives, were almost universally positive, with participants expressing surprise when told it was actually
Vista they had been using.
For now, Microsoft has put up a
teaser site, with
plans to show the actual video footage next week.

implies, is only available to
commercial entities."

Texas bans Windows Vista from government use
Windows Vista wasn't the biggest commercial success; many companies refused to use it initially, and are sticking with XP for now. It's
strange, however, that the state of Texas has only just now declared it unfit for government use, despite a service pack having been released and many
initial issues fixed. The news comes from Computer World, and states that it is now not allowed for government agencies to upgrade to Windows Vista,
because "of the many reports of problems with Vista." They say that they are not picking on Microsoft, but that they just don't trust the most
recent Windows operating system, and that Windows XP does everything they need to.

Microsoft makes Windows Vista breakthrough in China
Chinese PC giant Founder Technology Group has agreed to preinstall Windows Vista on laptops and desktops, closing a loophole in an earlier deal with
Microsoft that potentially exempted commercial PCs from agreements to preinstall Windows.
Founder and Microsoft signed a
memorandum of understanding during a visit to Beijing by Steve Ballmer, Microsoft's CEO, today. The deal, which will see Founder preinstall Vista on
more laptops and commercial desktops, builds on an earlier agreement to preinstall Windows on Founder's consumer desktop line. Founder will also sell
Microsoft hardware, such as mice and webcams, in 35 Chinese cities.
In a separate deal between the two companies, Founder agreed
to preinstall Windows Live on its PCs for the next two years. The Windows Live deal comes as Microsoft said the software is no longer in beta and
seeks to expand the number of people using it.

Microsoft Invites Mozilla Devs
Over
The head of Microsoft's open
source lab is inviting Mozilla
developers up to Redmond for
some help in making sure
Firefox and Thunderbird run on
Windows Vista. The offer is
part of a weekly lab Microsoft
is holding for developers in
order to reduce application
compatibility problems.
With Windows Vista
nearing its first release
candidate, application
compatibility has taken center
stage. If customers'
applications don't seamlessly
work with the new operating
system, many will hold off on
upgrading. In turn, Microsoft
has begun to seek out bigger
developers and work with them
directly.
For
four days each week through
December, Microsoft is hosting
a Windows Vista Readiness ISV
Lab. Although Mozilla competes
with Internet Explorer, the
alternative browser is also a
top third-party application,
and Microsoft's developer
ecosystem is critical to the
success of Windows.
