Now for the web server on a USB key!

Web apps are great, except for one thing -- they only run on the web. That means you can't use them for development of interactive CD-ROMs, or standalone PCs.

And if you're a web developer stuck behind a restrictive corporate firewall, or you simply want to test applications on your PC before uploading them to your website, it can be a hassle to set up a local webserver.

So, how do you like the sound of a fully portable, standalone web server which will run from a USB key, local folder or CD-ROM with no installation? Server2Go is for you.

Microsoft Rebrandishes E-Commerce Chops With Commerce Server Plans

There's been speculation that Microsoft is on the way out of the e-commerce game as the company has been largely silent about the future of its Commerce Server product. Speculate no longer. In a broad outline of Commerce Server's future on Wednesday, Microsoft is declaring its intention to stay in the game in a big way.

"To answer speculation, yes, we are going to continue Commerce Server as a standalone product and brand," says Ryan Donovan, Microsoft's product unit manager for the Commerce Server and Web hosting product groups.

Microsoft, which released Commerce Server 2007 last summer, is announcing that the next major release of Commerce Server, currently code-named Commerce Server "7," will be available in 2010. In the interim, the company will release "accelerators," slated for release in the second half of 2008, to better integrate Commerce Server with other Microsoft products and to keep pace with competitors like IBM and Art Technology Group (ATG). Previously, Microsoft had focused only on big-bang releases for Commerce Server. ..

Windows Server 2003 - XP Conversion Pack

Windows Server 2003 is well known for its superior speed, stability, and security when compared to Windows XP. A Warning About the Windows Vista SP1 Beta Standalone Installer

Robert McLaws: By now you're aware that the Windows Vista SP1 Beta has been released to beta testers for a thorough shakedown. I just wanted to give anyone who still has UAC on a bit of warning. If you right-click the installer and select "Run as Administrator" first, then it won't take nearly as long to extract the files. Otherwise, it takes almost 15 minutes just to fail thrugh the copy the first time, until you finally get the UAC dialog.

Also, be aware that, while it says it can take up to 30 minutes, it's closer to an hour, and it will restart 3 or 4 times in the process (checking the box at the beginning is definitely advised). I've been running SP1 on my main machine for a few hours now, and it seems to be pretty stable. I'll have more on this later.
