10.06.2008Windows Home Server, officially available August 27
If theres one computing server
product every enthusiast and
home-user should be excited
about, that would not be
Windows Server 2003 Datacenter
Edition for Itanium-Based
Systems, instead it should be
Windows Home Server - codename
Q. Last month, WHS was
released to manufacturing
aiming for distribution in
the next couple of months and
retail availability this
fall. The official
availability date is now most
likely Monday, August 27th
2007.
On
the
Microsoft
Support Lifecycle website,
a listing for Windows Home
Server states the general
availability date as
8/27/2007, and mainstream
support retirement date as
10/9/2012. This however does
not suggest OEM products such
as those from HP will ship
then - still expected to come
fall (September).
In this case,
general availability most
likely refers to the DVD
package for system builders
and other OEM channels. If
youre one of those people who
want to build your own Home
Server, then you should
consider bugging your local
computer shop for a copy from
August 27. Alternatively start
your own OEM business.
For those
who are looking for a more
buy-one-and-it-works package,
hold on to your horses and
DVDRip movies for just a
little bit longer as complete
systems are still on-track for
a September release.

02.02.2006Windows Server 2003 - XP
Conversion Pack
Windows Server 2003 is well
known for its superior speed,
stability, and security when
compared to Windows XP. This
fact is proven by
Microsoft's use of the
Windows Server 2003 kernel in
both Windows x64 Edition and
the upcoming Windows Vista.
Given this fact, it's no
wonder that many Windows users
have already switched to
Windows Server 2003 to gain
such improvements. However,
these users will have no doubt
also discovered that
compatibility issues are
common when using Windows
Server 2003 as a primary
home-use OS. Until Now... We
are proud to present version
2.0 of Windows X's
popular Windows Server 2003 -
XP Conversion Pack. This tool
will convert the Windows 2003
codebase from ServerNT to
WinNT, which will enable
locked features and transform
Windows Server 2003 into a
more compatible, and usable OS
like Windows XP. After
converting, your OS will
perform like Windows XP
Professional x64 Edition.
Finally you can gain all the
advantages of running Windows
Server 2003, without the
compatibility headaches!..

Microsoft has largely succeeded in getting a PC into the home, but its
effort to put a server there will
be an uphill battle.
Bill Gates
announced the product to much fanfare at last year's Consumer Electronics Show. However, even folks who are bullish on the
concept, such as Forrester Research analyst J.P. Gownder, say it's destined to be a niche product for years to come.
In a
soon-to-be-published research report, Gownder figures that home servers (not just those running Microsoft's home server product) will reach 4.5
million households by 2012. That's up from just 190,000 such servers last year.
