2400+ major sites that IE 8 can't render correctly

As Microsoft moves forward with IE 8 it is hoping to introduce new features that will help stop the bleeding of consumers switching to other browsers. While many hope that IE 8 will also help to ease webmasters pain of making every site work on every browser, that dream may not come true. Mary-Jo Foley of ZDnet is reporting that IE 8's incompatibility list is at "2400 major sites and counting". These are sites that do not render correctly natively in IE 8 and require an IE 7 layer to be running to display to web page correctly.

AMD claims 'fastest graphics supercomputer ever'

IT vendors seem to believe that if you say the word "cloud" enough, an marginal business idea will yield up revenues and profits. Much the same thing happened with grid computing - remember that? - before it morphed with utility computing into the even more nebulous cloud moniker. So it is with the AMD Fusion Render Cloud, which would have simply been another example of a render farm used to create 3D images for computer simulations or movies if not for the cloud bit. It includes some clever software made by OTOY that allows 3D, high-definition graphics to be rendered on a set of remote servers and then displayed down the wire to a relatively modest PC or laptop.

Neowin server hamsters get 'Dugg', suffer heart attack

We apologize for getting caught with our pants down today, but our friends at Digg and Reddit have been slamming our forum with traffic over the last few hours. Our servers buckled under the pressure, but it's hard to survive the Digg wave, especially when we get a pretty heavy level of traffic on a normal day for our servers.

Yesterday myself and two of my co-workers took apart an old hard drive that we found in a stack that were being sent off to be destroyed. The drive was an 8GB Quantum Fireball that had a nasty rattle to it. Since we'd never heard anything this bad coming out of a hard drive we decided to open it up and see what was causing it. To our amazement the drive looked like it lived up to its Fireball name.

So here are the photographs you've probably come here looking for. Again, we apologize for the inability to reach the site. Our Developers did their best to get everything back up as quickly as possible.

Microsoft to replace MSN Groups with Windows Live Groups

Microsoft has been planning to remove MSN Groups and re brand them with Windows Live since the introduction of Windows Live. Now it seems Windows Live Groups will launch on November 17th, replacing MSN Groups, set to close on February 21, 2009.

In an email from a Microsoft Technical Support spokesperson, it is advised that Microsoft will be launching a service named multiply to migrate MSN Groups to Multiply so that they can be preserved after MSN Groups is closed in February.

Jonathan Yaniv, a Microsoft Windows Live Butterfly, has been doing some digging around the Microsoft Windows Live internal sites. Yaniv has found that you can now apply new themes to groups, stop people from using your Group in Windows Live Messenger to chat and Microsoft has implemented a mailing list feature for group emails and an option to ban known spammers.

Below is an example of the new Windows Live Groups set to launch next month (courtesy of Jonathan Yaniv).
