Microsoft has introduced some product tours of Windows 7 in action, similar to Apple's guided tours. Long Zheng spotted them on Microsoft's Windows 7 site as the company ramps up it's marketing of Windows 7. In all of the videos, Latika Kirtane, product manager for Internet Explorer, stars once again. According to Zheng, Kirtane was the star of Microsoft's infamous Songsmith marketing video. The Windows 7 videos have a similar feel to those that Apple uses every time it has a new product to demonstrate. They are both informative and knowledgeable but do not come across as purely just marketing.

Windows Anytime Upgrade: Digital Distribution To End

Microsoft had this to say on its website: "In an effort to streamline the Windows Anytime Upgrade experience for our customers and open the program to additional markets worldwide, Microsoft and its partners have decided to end digital product key distribution on February 20, 2008."

With Windows Anytime Upgrade, customers could upgrade to another version of Vista by purchasing a digital product key. Microsoft has now decided to stop distributing product keys online. Those who now want to upgrade, will have to buy a Windows Anytime Upgrade Kit from a local retailer or from Microsoft.

New information revealed about Microsoft's new anti-malware product

Liveside has reported some new information about Microsoft's new anti-malware product codenamed "Morro", formally named Windows Live OneCare. According to Liveside, Microsoft considering the following names for it's new anti-malware program: Microsoft Security Essentials, Microsoft Antivirus Plus, Microsoft Personal Security, and Microsoft Security Fundamentals. "Morro", has been in limited alpha testing, will be available for free to all licensed Windows users, and while there is no confirmed release date yet, it's possible that the product will be available the second half of 2009. The goal of this product is to deliver high quality protection against malware while having a low impact on system performance and making it easy to install. As I've mentioned before, it's shaping into an excellent product and I have given my reasons why I think people should upgrade. But let's pause for a moment and look ahead to your supposed next version of Windows, Windows 8, since it's already in planning stages. Now that you've gotten a way to get some kind of backwards compatibility in your OS virtually, this presents an opportunity to rebuild Windows from the ground up and turn it into an excellent product. Here are some ideas I think should be implemented into the next version of Windows: One version, one price There's no need so different editions of Windows.

Product Activation Changes and Impacts on Windows Server 2008

Today the Windows group announced some changes in their increased efforts against piracy and new steps being taken to protect Windows Vista (see here for details). These changes are coming in Windows Vista SP1 (due out in Q1 2008). Along with disabling some of the known exploits that counterfeiters are using, changes are being made to product activation. Specifically, the Reduced Functionality Mode (RFM) is being replaced with new notifications to let customers know that their systems are not genuine when they do not activate or when their systems fail validation.

Have a look through to see some of the special extras included in Vista Ultimate (RED) as well as check out the Dell (RED) PCs. Bear in mind all this comes at no extra cost to the consumer, but it can make a life-changing difference for someone else in the world.
