Windows Performance Blog
As I said in yesterday’s introduction, my job as an engineer on the Windows Vista team is to improve performance. I wanted to look at a study that measure a key area that we focused on for Windows Vista – consistent responsiveness during the times that matter most to users (when starting up their machine, after being idle, and when you are under the gun running tons of apps, etc.).

08.01.2009Microsoft to provide Facebook-Toolkit-like add-on for Windows Live developers
Microsoft is planning on fielding in November a set of new tools that will support Windows Live developers.
The forthcoming
Windows Live toolbox kit will include add-on tools that will work with Visual Studio 2008, the Expression family of designer
tools and the Express hobbyist tools. the first deliverable will support Visual Studio 2008 and possibly also Visual Studio 2005.
Microsoft is planning to officially roll out the Visual studio Toolkit for Windows Live simultaneously at the Dev Connections show in Las Vegas
and TechEd Europe. (My bet is the rollout will be of a beta of the toolkit, though I dont know this for sure.)
LiveSide.Net
obtained some preliminary details about the new toolkit during the recent Mix UK conference. Microsoft execs told LiveSide that the new tools are
going to look and work a lot like the
Facebook Developer
Toolkit that Microsoft announced in May 2007. In fact, the new Visual Studio Toolkit for Windows Live is being developed by Microsofts Doug
Handler, who did a lot of the work on the Facebook toolkit in terms of using a drag-drop-to-canvas model, the Softies told LiveSide.)

17.09.2007PowerPoint Prototyping Toolkit (release 0.1)
Long Zheng: After hearing about the impact and success it had in Microsoft, I couldnt wait to get my hands on prototyping in PowerPoint 2007. Amongst
a few things Manuel Clement suggested a few weeks ago in his presentation about świreframe prototyping with Office PowerPoint 2007ł, was to create a
toolkit of commonly used GUI components to copy and paste when designing the prototype screens. Thats what I set out to build.
My
vision for a toolkit is to contain a set of all the possible and feasible GUI components you could otherwise use in designing a real Windows
application or browser application. For example, it should include buttons, drop-down lists, window frames, toolbars, dialog boxes and address bars.
Of course there are probably as many of those as there are stars, so Ill just have to focus on the most commonly used ones.

13.11.2007Microsofts releases Alpha of Windows 7 Software Logo Toolkit
As we had with Windows Vista, Windows 7 will sport a similar "Software Logo Program", assuring the applications customers purchase are fully
compatible with the new operating system and
just work, assuming the application carries the "Compatible with Windows 7" logo.
Of course, the logo can't just be handed out willy-nilly and programs must meet a strict set of technical requirements in order to qualify. To help
developers with the process of testing their applications,
Microsoft
announced today the first Alpha release of the Windows 7 Software Logo Toolkit.
The toolkit is an automated and lightweight
command-line tool which verifies whether an application meets the specified requirements:
- Comply with Anti-Spyware Coalition Guidelines
- Do not modify Windows Resource Protections (WRP) protected resources
- Ensure ongoing quality
- Technical Requirements
-
Clean, reversable installation
- Install to the correct folders by default
- Digitally sign files and drivers
- Support x64 version
of Windows
- Do not block installation or application launch based on OS version check
- Follow User Account Control (UAC) Guidelines
- Adhere to Restart Manager Messages
- Do not load Services and Drivers in Safe Mode
- Support Multiuser Sessions
In order
to download the toolkit, you must first
opt-in for updates on the Connect
program. Alternatively, we could just save you the trouble and provide you with the universal invitation code, like so: LOGO-RX8Y-64B9. Once you're
