12.02.2008Security in the Mobile Device Era
Deb Shinder: A few years ago, I wrote an article for this site called Securing your Pocket PC . Mobile security has come a long way since then,
and the current Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system, new versions of Windows server products and third party software make it easier than ever to
allow your users to enjoy the convenience of modern smart phone computing and connect to the company network via their mobile devices without
compromising the LAN. But there still remain many challenges to security in an era when mobile devices are proliferating rapidly. In this article, we
focus on how to secure Windows Mobile 6.1 devices and also touch on issues that arise when you incorporate non-Windows mobile products (such as the
iPhone) into your Windows network.

If you have any need to find out what your computer is
really doing under the hood, you know that Process Monitor is
the tool.
Today, Process Monitor 2.0 was released. From the
Sysinternals blog:
This major update to Process Monitor adds real-time TCP and UDP monitoring to its existing process, thread, DLL, file system and registry
monitoring. You can now see the TCP and UDP activity processes performed, including the operation (e.g. connect, send, receive), local and remote IP
addresses and DNS names, and operation transfer lengths. On Windows Vista, Process Monitor also collects thread stacks for network
operations.

15.10.2005Network Monitor 3 One Click Capture Tool - BETA Available
Wish you could get a network capture from a computer with no capture software installed? Wish you could have a network traffic "flight recorder" on
a USB key? Here's your answer!"
The motivation behind creating this tool was to provide an extremely simple way to get a trace
from an end user. And the name says it all, though maybe a small bit of false advertisement as it may take a bit more than just one click :). Once you
have it downloaded to your machine, you can launch the executable and it will lead you through some simple dialogs that install the tool and start a
trace. Once the trace is complete, which means it was manually stopped by the user or the default time of 2 hours have passed, a window will be opened
to the location for the capture, called OneClick.cap.
<...>
Obtaining the Tool
At this
point we are beta testing the tool. So the only means of getting it is on the Network Monitor project on
http://connect.microsoft.com. When you join the project, you will see both the Auto-run and Extract Only packages in the
download section. Once we release the tool, we will make it available on the Microsoft Download site as this is more convenient, which is our goal for
this tool.

Mobile Spy is an application aimed at businesses wishing to

accessible by the business, as well as incoming and outgoing call numbers, and the URLs of websites visited.
F-Secure claims to

account, and goes to view SMS logs, there are demonstration samples from a database of messages...
