How to Share Large File on The Web Using MegaUpload

The following tutorial will explain you how to share a large file on the web between you and your friend or anyone else. I'm choosing MegaUpload as an example here - not for any particular reason - but later, I might write more tutorial for other large file sharing service, such as YouSendIt and RapidShare.

One of the most advantage of using MegaUpload, compare with other similar service, is the duration how long your file(s) will be kept in their server. Your uploaded files will be deleted only after it become unused for 30 days. So, if many of your friends download it, over and over again, the files will always be there. The size is quite big, up to 250MB. Not as big as YouSendIt which allow up to 1GB file size, but it's more than enough to share your music files, movies, etc.

Longhorn Reloaded - What Vista Might Have Been

You may remember Windows Longhorn as the codename for the project that eventually led to Windows Vista. But some folks out there arent satisfied with that explanation. They say Longhorn was meant to be much more, before Microsoft changes its goals for the final release, stripping the new WinFS file system among other things.

Testers who responded to the Microsoft call up to be re-included into the Windows Longhorn Server beta test have been notified that the test has been "restarted" under the old name "Windows Vista, Longhorn Server and IE 7 Beta"

The latest build, Windows Longhorn Server 6001-16406-061208-1900 for X86 and X64 is available for download and testing. As of yet there is still no final designation for the server version but we'd still like to speculate that it will end up as Windows Server 2007 seeing as Microsoft already made it clear when Windows Server 2003 was released that it intended to stay with the "Windows Server" branding.

Windows Longhorn Server didn't receive much attention at the Consumer Electronic Show, it was shadowed by Windows Vista and the Windows Home Server announcement, hopefully this will change when WinHEC hits later this year in LA.

Starring from left to right, Tjeerd Hoek - design director for Windows, Greg Melander - visual design lead for Longhorn; Cees van Dok - lead product designer; Mark Ligameri - design manager & creative director for Longhorn; and Chris Guzak - senior architect for Windows.

Microsoft reveals focus for Longhorn Itanium

Microsoft has revealed that Longhorn, the next manifestation of Windows Server, will be optimised for three specific workloads. The company said that the Itanium version would be designed to support databases, ERP and CRM application and customised applications.

The forthcoming release is due sometime in 2007. The Itanium version of Windows Server is the OS for servers running on Intel's x64 Itanium processor, which is targeted mainly at high-end enterprise customers.

Because of the specific high-end optimisation plans, the Longhorn release for Itanium won't be a good fit for servers handling less computing-intensive applications. These include applications such as Windows Media Services and Windows SharePoint Services, or common office functions such as file and print and faxing.

The plan to tweak versions of Longhorn for specific business needs meets the objectives of a strategy outlined by Bob Muglia, senior vice president for the Windows Server Division, at Microsoft's TechEd Conference in June. Muglia outlined what Microsoft is calling "the right server for the right job."..

Longhorn Server to Be Named Windows Server 2007

ActiveWin are claiming that the final designation for Windows Codenamed Longhorn Server will be Windows Server 2007 after all, how original! Speculated here long before Vista hit RTM.

"An unnamed Microsoft official just confirmed to ActiveWin.com that the new Windows server succeeding Windows Server 2003 will be named Windows Server 2007, now known in its beta form as Windows Server "Longhorn". Windows Server 2007 is currently slated to be released in the second half of 2007, culminating a long beta process which began in early 2005. In addition, development has begun on the next series of MSCE certification tests geared for Windows Server 2007."

An interesting point to note, Longhorn Server is not expected to be completed before the start of the second half of 2007. We all know how good Microsoft are for keeping dates, so anything could 'still' happen. For now at least it's Windows Server 2007.

Windows 7 'HomeGroup': rebirth of Longhorn 'Castle'?

Long Zheng: Half a decade after its initial conception, Windows Codename Longhorn still proves to be a great source of ideas. One of which known as Castle, appears to have been revived to be a feature of Windows 7 as HomeGroup.

We know what Workgroups are - Microsofts implementation of a peer-to-peer computer network for Windows to share files, printers and other resources. So what are HomeGroups?

That mystery didnt last very long as someone was kind enough to point me to some well-aged reading material which described exactly what Castle was, and the same person claims what HomeGroups are about to become.

Will Windows 7 track your every move?

One good place to look for what might be coming in Windows 7 is an early planned feature list of Vista (then called Longhorn) back in 2003. If one intriguing feature, called Location Awareness, makes its way into Windows 7, it could track your every move...and that could be a good thing.

Microsoft described Location Awareness, along with a host of other planned features, in a document called the Windows "Longhorn" Pre-Release Privacy Statement that detailed to beta testers Longhorn's expected data collection and use. (Thanks to istartedsomething for uncovering this document and its relation to another potential Windows 7 feature, HomeGroup.) Many of these features never made it into Vista --- remember WinFS anyone?

As ISPs choke file-sharing, users look elsewhere

As ISPs constrict file-sharing services such as BitTorrent, new data shows that users are moving to file-hosting Web sites to avoid slow downloads.

RapidShare and MegaUpload are among the most used file-hosting services. Together, the two sites account for 9 percent of all Internet traffic in the Middle East and 4 percent in Germany, according to iPoque, a company based in Leipzig, Germany, that specializes in traffic-management appliances for ISPs.

The percentages are significant since over the last year usage of file-sharing sites, which number in the dozens, has surged, said Klaus Mochalski, iPoque's CEO. The sites offer potentially faster download speeds for sharing files than peer-to-peer networks.
