Features and screenshots of the new Windows Live Messenger v9

Mess.be: A few days ago we obtained the latest installer for Windows Live Messenger, version "2009". We were asked to keep it quiet for now, but of course we couldn't contain our excitement and had to let all messers out there know about the new stuff. The most noticeable is of course the new look, with colors and headers resembling the new Windows Live header that has been discussed by Liveside before. On top of that, it looks like all the various dialogs are now also properly styled like Windows Live Messenger, rather than having the "old" Windows look. Here, why don't you have a look for yourself...

Windows Live Messenger celebrates 10 years, hits 330m users

Previously named MSN Messenger, it was released to work on the Windows operating system platform for users to instantly chat over the Internet using Microsoft's .NET Messenger Service. Microsoft later re-branded MSN Messenger into Windows Live Messenger to merge it with its other Live services back in December 13, 2005. Windows Live Messenger (WLM) has gone through significant protocol changes and face lifts over its many versions in the last 10 years, ending up at Windows Live Messenger 2009 (designated to be called 9.0).

Quickly find your privacy settings on Windows Live

Since Windows Live got updated to Wave 3, we saw Microsoft expanding into the field of Social Networking. It introduced the concept of Profiles, where you are able to show off what you want to show to others, and also the Whats New feed which shows you what others want to show you. Every user using Windows Live, including all Hotmail and Messenger users (who may or may not be aware of the new social networking side of Windows Live Wave 3), now has a Profile. Although this is an exciting update for some, this update also caused some concern about privacy and user permissions what if you dont want to show everyone else what youve been doing online?
