20.05.2008Windows 7 Beta 1 has problems with XP Display Drivers (XDDM)
I've been enjoying Windows 7 so much over the past week, that I've been evangelizing it to all of my friends. One friend with a Dell Inspiron
710m decided to take the plunge. Windows 7 installation went well, but we can't find any compatible display drivers for the Intel 855gm graphics
card. The graphics card in question doesn't support Windows Vista or Window 7's new WDDM driver model, but Windows Vista shipped with XDDM
drivers for this card out of the box. I feel that Windows 7 should have all of the same in-box drivers as Vista, and it's a bummer that this one
is not included.

12.01.2009Sony to show off 360-degree display, and no need for glasses
Sony has announced that they will be showing off a prototype 3D display that can be viewed from any angle, without any glasses, according to a press
release by Sony (via TechRadar). The 27 centimeter tall cylindrical display will be on show at the Digital Content EXPO 2009 later this month. The
96px by 128px resolution display isn't exactly groundbreaking to say the least, but what makes it special is that the same image can be seen from
any angle, and without glasses, although Sony does not mention how it achieves this. One of the benefits of the stereoscopic display is that it
allows multiple users to view the same image at once.

26.05.2007Passenger Says He Hacked Windows in New York Taxi Display Screen
A New York City software engineer managed to gain access to the operating system for a touch-screen display available in the back seat of many
Manhattan taxicabs and also used it to connect to the Internet. But no sensitive information or critical systems were compromised, according to the
display systems vendor.
The display is used to present short videos and ads to taxi riders, and can be used to pay the taxi fare
with a credit card. A VeriFone Transportation Systems spokesman told InformationWeek Thursday that passengers' credit card data is encrypted and
isn't stored locally, so it wasn't compromised. He also said the cab had an outdated modem, used while the city tested the display systems.

29.12.2007Apple 20" Cinema Display: Discontinued
Today, Apple has discontinued their 20" Cinema Display. The item was removed from Apple's online store and resellers were informed that they are
unable to order any additional units.
While the 20" display is discontinued, the 30" classic display is still available for order.
Unfortunately, the new 24" display strictly works with the unibody MacBooks. In result, anyone buying a Mac Pro or Mac Mini wanting a Cinema Display
only have one option, a $1799 30" display.
While the displays are out of date, Apple still has many products that have gone far longer
than normal without updates. Apple has stated that all of their products will make the transition to display port, suggesting that a new monitor and
desktops with the port should be released rather soon. Additionally, keys found in 10.5.6 have pointed out that there will be an update to the iMac
and the Mac Mini, most likely prior to the release of 10.5.7.
MacRumors expects for Apple to release a new 20" LED display to take the
replace of the previous model in the near future.

04.09.2007Apple discontinues 20" Cinema Display
It appears that Apple has discontinued its 20 inch Cinema Display and according to Mac Rumors the product has been given the EOL (end of life) tag.
It is easy to assume that Apple is getting ready to replace the older monitor with a new LED based display to keep it inline with their other
products. Apple's business model is to phase out one product before the introduction of an upgraded model. While similar to other business
strategies Apple sticks to this model for all of its products and does not waiver in the slightest bit.

15.01.2009Screen swivels its crystals for a better view
A computer screen that knows
just where its viewer is and
automatically adjusts itself
to provide better images has
been developed by researchers
in Taiwan.
Their technique prevents
users from seeing a blurred or
distorted image when viewing a
liquid crystal display (LCD)
from an angle instead of
straight on.
The Taiwanese researchers
have developed a prototype
display connected to a
miniature camera that tracks
the location of a viewer.
Software then calculates how
to adjust the liquid crystals
within the display to produce
the clearest possible
image.
"Viewing angle is an
inherent, fundamental problem
for the LCD because of its
working principle," says
Wayne Cheng, who developed the
screen with colleague Chih-Nan
Wu at the Photonics and
Display Institute,
National
Chiao Tung University in
