23.8.2006Manuvir Das: Introducing Windows Azure
Manuvir Das, Director in the Windows Azure team introduces us to Microsoft's new cloud operating system, Windows Azure. Is Windows Azure a new OS
from Microsoft? Well, sort of, but not in a strict sense (e.g., Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008). That said, one could say that Windows Azure
extends Windows to the cloud. That is, Windows Azure provides a highly scalable virtualization fabric for server-side application execution,
deployment, automatic management, and simple storage. Windows Azure provides the base infrastructure for services in the cloud.

27.10.2008Oops! Microsoft forgets to trademark 'Windows Azure'
Although Microsoft registered the Web site for its new Windows Azure more than 14 years ago, it has not trademarked the name of its new cloud-based
operating system, Windows Azure, Internet searches revealed Monday.
According to searches conducted by Computerworld, Microsoft has not
applied for a trademark for either "Windows Azure" or "Azure Services Platform" with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Microsoft used both
names to describe its software-plus-services technology.
Microsoft's own trademark list also omits Azure, though that list has not been
updated since earlier this month.

15.09.2006Azure manages to avoid a Hailstorm of criticism
Microsoft's Hailstorm prompted an avalanche of criticism when it was proposed seven years ago, but developers seem to have few qualms with Windows
Azure, which embraces many of the same notions.

data centers where the applications run and the servers where the information is stored. If anything, Microsoft's control has grown, not shrunk from
the vision that the company outlined in 2001.
