Windows Vista Product Keys Leaked
What is the first thing you should do after buying Windows Vista? Take high resolution pictures of the newly acquired product and post it on the Internet so that anyone could see. Right? Wrong!
Or at least if you are going to take pictures of the Windows Vista box and what it contains make sure that you choose a neutral side.

Richard Macdonald: If you have an MSDN subscription, then you'll know that the subscription includes a set of product keys for use with the versions
of Office, Windows, etc that your subscription gives you access to. The keys can be viewed on-line at the MSDN subscriber site, but this isn't great
if you don't have any network access, and even then it's not all that convenient to have to log on each time to get a key.
Now,
there is an option to export your keys to an XML file, which means you can have them available off-line. However, XML isn't the most user-friendly

25.09.2009Microsoft to Remedy ‘Family Discount' Tragedy
It looks like Microsoft is
ready to settle the score with
customers who took advantage
of the Vista Family Discount
offer earlier this week. As
reported on Wednesday, anyone
who purchased Windows Vista
Home Premium using the keys
provided by Microsoft's Vista
Family Discount was unable to
use the keys. Windows Vista
reported them as invalid.
Microsoft still will
not tell me what the keys are
for, however as promised I did
get a call back today. I was

know how these false keys
where issued, but we do know
the solution." What is
Microsoft's solution?
Anyone who took
advantage of the Windows Vista

emailing those customers new
product keys for Windows Vista
Home Premium within the next
3-5 days. The new product keys
should work without a hitch.

02.02.2007No more digital product keys for Windows Anytime Upgrade users
Microsoft is making a tweak to the way it will enable Windows Vista users to upgrade to higher-end versions of Windows via its

Starting February 20, Microsoft is planning to end distribution of digital product
keys, company officials said on February 7. Instead, customers will need to obtain a Windows Anytime Upgrade kit, consisting of a Windows DVD and
product keys, either directly from Microsoft, via snail-mail, or in person via a Microsoft retailer. Anytime Upgraders still can order the upgrade kit
online, but the key will be sent by snail-mail.)

01.05.2008Vista Beta 2: Biggest download
in history
In an instant message chat,
Microsoft has told the Windows
Featured Communities that the
demand for Windows Vista Beta
2 has been overwhelming. It
is, in fact, the largest
downloaded software in
history. Currently, they are
serving product keys out ten
times faster then the
downloads can be served. In
fact, they are pumping out
bits as fast as they can - any
faster and there would be a
measurable impact on the
internet. In fact, I quote a
Microsoft representive:
"So, we are
literally saying that if we
increased our bandwidth any
further there's a possibilty
of taking down the Internet -
people might have problems
with World Cup viewing,
etc"
People
who have recieved Vista Beta 2
product keys, but are unable
to download, may need to wait
a few days, up to one week.
Microsoft encoruages users who
want to try out Windows Vista
Beta 2 to order the DVD. When
they recieve the DVD in 1-4
weeks, install it, and
activate it, they will be
automattically guaranteed an
RC1 upgrade.

11.02.2008Vista 'Family Discount' Bites Back
In the past, early adopters of
new Windows versions have had
some small hurdles to
overcome. Such hurdles may be
software incompatibility, or
lack of driver support. These
sorts of things are almost
expected with each new Windows
launch. But what would you do
if you bought Windows Vista
and your product key didn't
work? What if Microsoft had
no solution and was unwilling
to issue you a new key?
Many (if not all)
users who took advantage of
Microsoft's Vista Family
Discount have been issued
invalid installation keys and
cannot install Windows Vista
Home Premium. Microsoft
confirms that the keys are
indeed valid, but not for
Windows Vista. The CSR I spoke
with was unable to tell what
the key was for, but it did
appear to be a valid key, for
something.
Microsoft says, "This is a
known issue and has been
escalated to the program
manager." When asked what
could be done I was told, "I
can take your name and number
and call you back when there
is a solution. If that is not
acceptable, I can cancel your
order and issue you a
refund." I was also told,
"There is no expected time
period for a fix at this
time."
If
Microsoft does not have this
issue fixed very soon, they
are going to have a lot of
unhappy customers. In the past
Microsoft has just issued new
keys when this happened. Why
is Microsoft being so tight
gripped about handing out new
keys? If I purchased a valid
key, what is it for? How long
is this going to take to fix?
So many questions, so little
answers.
