Microsoft Color Control Panel Applet for Windows XP

The Microsoft Color Control Panel Applet adds a new 'Color' item to the Windows control panel, providing a single place to view and edit color management settings in Windows XP. Using it, you can install and uninstall color profiles, change color profile associations for displays, printers and scanners, view detailed properties for color profiles (including a 3D rendering of the color space gamut), and rename color profiles, keeping the filenames and "internal" names consistent.
This tool also enables Windows to automatically adjust the gamut curve of the display when a color profile containing gamut table information is set as the default profile for the display. Typically, such profiles are created by custom monitor calibration tools, such as those available from ColorVision, GretagMacbeth, and X-Rite. If a color profile has this information, it is shown with an asterisk (*) in the user interface.

Using the Microsoft Color Control Panel Applet, you can:

* Install and uninstall ICC color profiles
* Inspect, rename, and compare two different color profiles
* View a 3D graphics plot of color profile color gamuts
* Associate color profiles with devices such as printers, monitors, and scanners
* Apply custom color gamut adjustments to one or more displays ???on the fly???
* Set up display calibration reminders at intervals you specify

Happy 20th birthday to the World Wide Web

Twenty years ago today, on March 13, 1989, sparked the revolution of one of the greatest inventions of a life time, that being the World Wide Web. The purposed idea was to help connect people together using the World Wide Web using the once popular ViolaWWW web browser, which was eventually replaced by Mosaic web browser back in 1993. Tim Berners-Lee was the man behind "Information Management: A Proposal" leading the way for what we now consider the Internet. In a quote from Tim Berners-Lee said: "We should work toward a universal linked information system, in which generality and portability are more important than fancy graphics techniques and complex extra facilities.

Microsoft Robotics Studio (1.0)

The goal of the Microsoft Robotics Studio is to supply a software platform for the robotics community that can be used across a wide variety of hardware, applicable to a wide audience of users, and development of a wide variety of applications.

As a platform, our intent is also to enable third parties to supply support for new hardware, technologies, and tools, just as Microsoft Windows provides a platform for others to bring their products and technologies to the community of PC users. So while we may populate our platform with some of our own contributions, those should not be considered exclusive to tools or libraries provided by other parties looking to provide interesting technologies for this platform.

Weak IPv6 Security Leaves Computers Wide Open

Weak or nonexistent implementations in computer security
software can leave otherwise-secure computers wide open for attack – so open,
in fact, that in some cases it’s as if there’s no
firewall running at all
.

Speaking at the annual HOPE (Hackers on Planet Earth) conference in New
York, security researcher Joe Klein of Command Information said
that the internet is full of computers surreptitiously running IPv6,
unbeknownst to their owners. Compounding the problem is the number of operating
systems shipped with IPv6 enabled by default, which includes Windows Vista,
Linux’s 2.6 kernel, Sun’s Solaris, Mac OS X, and a variety of cell phones
operating systems, including Windows Mobile 5 and 6.

World Wide Web creator Tim Berners-Lee has started a blog just in time for the 15th anniversary of his invention.

In his first entry, Berners-Lee remarked on how the Web took off as a publishing medium rather than one in which visitors not only read but also contributed information.

"WWW was soon full of lots of interesting stuff, but not a space for communal design, for discource through communal authorship," he wrote.

That has changed lately with the growing popularity of blogs, which are online diaries that often let visitors submit comments, and wikis, which are sites in which visitors can add, change and even delete what they see...
