If you go into this with the right mindset, you can end up with a card that's just as good as those pricey overclocked ones. But
remember that you won't be able to return the card for repair if something goes wrong. If that thought gives you the willies, we recommend paying
a few bucks more for a factory overclocked card.

13.12.2007UK spent 6.6 billion on new ID's, didnt buy one card reader
The British government has spent 6.6 billion dollars for a new identity card program that is based around biometrics. Like any new ID card program it
is designed to help enhance security for everyone from public officials to private citizens. The problem is that there is not one card reader in the
entire country, not at any police station, customs locations, anywhere in the entire country. It would be understandable if the government had a plan
to purchase card readers but it does not. "We have always said that we would roll out the scheme incrementally. The card will not be as useful as
it could be until we have got the volumes out there.

13.08.2008Google reverses itself on video refunds
After shutting down its video download store last week, Google angered some Google Video customers who had paid for movies but were locked out when
the store was shut down. At first, the search giant offered to refund customers in credit to their Google Checkout accounts but after wide criticism,
Google admitted that the move was "self-serving" and announced that it would give credit card refunds to anyone who had ever bought a video on the
site. In addition to the credit card refunds, those who received Google Checkout credits for videos could keep those as well. " Think of it as an
additional 'We're sorry we goofed' credit ," said Bindu Reddy, the store's product manager.
Google has said that the company wants
to concentrate more of its attention on video search and its video-sharing site, YouTube. The company has also not ruled out returning to
video-on-demand in the future.

22.08.2007How AMD Snuck Into The Intel Developer Forum
Intel's semi-annual conference for hardware and software developers is generally an AMD-free affair. But at this week's Intel Developer Forum in San
Francisco, Advanced Micro Devices managed to sneak in -- or at least, its ATI division did.
Here's how it happened. War Machine,
a subsidiary of Brea, Calif.-based white box builder Golden Star Technology, makes custom gaming systems built exclusively on Intel processors and
Nvidia video platforms. But for IDF, Intel asked War Machine to build its display systems on the chip leader's own video chipset, according to War
Machine director Pete Norwich.
The trouble was, the system builder found that the Nvidia video card it normally uses in its PCs
wasn't playing well with Intel's chipset. So, in a one-time solution strictly for IDF, War Machine wound up putting in an ATI video card instead...

Chris Holmes, Windows Enthusiast and blogger, has posted a short and somewhat blurry video of the new Windows 7 boot screen in action. The latest

makers, PC makers, and video card makers to remove product advertisement screens at system boot. Microsoft created a simple boot method which it
claimed took 6 seconds off initial boot compared to the more graphical boot that it had originally planned with the Longhorn betas.

is not included.

10.03.2009ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2: 2 GPUs, 1 Card, A Return to the High End
At the end of last year both AMD and NVIDIA hinted at bringing back multi-GPU cards to help round out the high end. The idea is simple: take two fast
GPUs, put them together on a single card and sell them as a single faster video card.
These dual GPU designs are even more
important today because of the SLI/CrossFire limitations that exist on various chipsets. With few exceptions, you can't run SLI on anything other
than a NVIDIA chipset; and unless you're running an AMD or Intel chipset, you can't run CrossFire. These self-contained SLI/CrossFire graphics cards
will work on anything however.
AMD is the first out of the gates with the Radeon HD 3870 X2, based on what AMD is calling its
R680 GPU. Despite the codename, the product name tells the entire story: the Radeon HD 3870 X2 is made up of two 3870s on a single card.

02.09.2009Sony's Announces Tiny High-Def Camcorder
Sony Corporation has announced
its smallest high-definition
camcorder to date: the
HDR-CX7, weighing 450 grams
and measuring 69 millimeters
by 67mm by 129mm. The camera
features a 3-megapixel image
sensor, although the camera
can also capture 6-megapixel
still images. The camera
sports a 10x optical zoom lens
and a 2.7-inch wide-screen,
touch-sensitive LCD monitor.
The CX7, which is due to go on
sale in June, will cost about
US$1,200 in the U.S. It
records 1080i high-definition
video directly to a
MemoryStick Pro Duo card.
Until now, Sony's
camcorders have relied on
MiniDV tape, DVD discs or
hard-disk drives to store
video, but the memory card
slot and associated electronic
take up less space and mean a
smaller, lighter camera. Using
a memory card also means that
getting video into a PC is as
easy as removing the card from
the camera and slotting it
into a card reader. A software
upgrade due mid-year will make
it possible to watch video
directly from high-speed Pro
Duo- or Pro HG-type
MemoryStick cards on both a PC
and the PlayStation 3. The
flash memory-based recording
also helps reduce power
consumption and noise. On the
other hand, memory cards are
quite expensive, and users
will be able to store only
about 30 minutes of video on a
4G-byte card in the camera's
highest quality mode.

17.08.2007Clearwire launches first pre-WiMAX notebook card
Long-range wireless provider
Clearwire today released its first
mobile pre-WiMAX card, providing customers of the company's 4G-level Internet access with more freedom than has been available with a full-size
modem. The adapter fits into a PC Card slot and provides nearly the same connection speeds as the more stationary device: in most coverage areas, the
card can match the same 1.5Mbps downstream speeds as one of Clearwire's fixed connections and is still several times faster than dial-up on the
fringe of access, running at a minimum 256Kbps.
The card officially requires a Windows XP or Vista system with a free PC Card
slot and should be available starting today. Service requires a $60 monthly PC Card plan as well as a $7 rental fee for the card itself. No indication
has been made of an ExpressCard or USB adapter as well as support for Mac or Linux systems.

23.08.2007AMD's ATI Hybrid CrossFire Sneak Peek Exclusive
Can you run CrossFire with only one video card? AMD shows us that they have it working and were confident enough to even let us sit down and play some
games and run benchmarks on their new ATI Hybrid CrossFire system. CrossFire gaming for the masses?
<...>
Hybrid CrossFire is not meant for the enthusiast, but we do think the technology will indirectly benefit enthusiasts in the future, hence our
reason for talking about it. That and Hybrid CrossFire is just pretty darn cool technology. Hybrid CrossFire is achieved by utilizing one of AMDs
new integrated chipset GPUs (IGP) and one of their new video cards. Thats right; Hybrid CrossFire utilizes one video card plugged into your
PCI-Express slot and is able to join forces with the GPU built into the motherboard chipset. The setup we got to game and benchmark on is seen
