an in-place upgrade to Windows 7, and to which version they can upgrade. You can view the chart below: As you can see from just a glance at the
chart, it's relatively confusing. Windows 7 offers no direct upgrade path from XP, which was announced very early on in the Windows 7 development
life cycle. Very specific upgrade paths from other versions of Windows Vista exist also. You can perform a "Custom Install" which is pretty much a
clean install, but you have the option to install Windows 7 to another disk without overwriting data.

citing our own source and we have now learned that on June 26th Microsoft will be launching https://windows7upgradeoption.com. What will be provided
on Friday is unknown but we may finally find out pricing options for Windows 7 upgrades or it could possibly show the paths you have to upgrade to
Windows 7 but leaving out the pricing options. Microsoft also plans to release final versions of its Windows 7 keyboard and mice drivers on June 26.

13.01.2009Microsoft provides latest Windows 7 roadmap
Microsoft has been releasing monthly updates to OEM's on their upcoming Windows 7 operating system.
Techarp has posted their latest update where Microsoft notes that
they are currently finishing product research based on feedback from OEM and end users. This will help them determine potential Windows 7 offerings /
SKUs. Microsoft aims to provide detailed Windows 7 SKU information sometime this month. The next OEM update is scheduled to be released around
November 13, 2008.
Interestingly, Microsoft has revealed the "Windows 7 Language Waves". Localised versions of Windows 7 will be released
over 101 days after RTM. These are not general release dates but dates that indicate when the various languages will be finalised.
Wave 0
- RTM - English, Spanish, Japanese, German, French
Wave 1 - RTM + 14 days - Italian, Dutch, Russian, Simplified Chinese
Wave 2 - RTM + 28
days - Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, Turkish, Korean
Wave 3 - RTM + 45 days - Traditional Chinese (Hong Kong), Czech, Portuguese, Hungarian
Wave 4 - RTM + 59 days - Danish, Norwegian (Bokmål), Finnish

In the OEM update Microsoft also detailed Windows Anytime Upgrade (WAU). Like Vista, Windows 7 users will be able to upgrade to a "more

information.
Microsoft is also planning a Windows 7 Tech Guarantee Program, where end users you purchase Vista systems will have the option
(for a limited time) of upgrading to Windows 7.

Microsoft has confirmed that customers can purchase upgrade media and an upgrade license at a discounted price to move from Windows XP to Windows 7.
However, customers need to do a clean installation of Windows 7. The pricing details of XP upgrade licenses are not yet known. An operating system
upgrade offers users the option of choosing between in-place upgrades, with installed applications & data in-place in the machine and a fresh
installation which overwrites the hard drive's contents. By eliminating in-place upgrades, users can have a reliable installation after backing up
all their data and applications.

Today, we have the exclusive look at a full fledged X58 system. The new chipset will be the foundation for Nehalem and Intel already indicated to us
that the new platform will deliver a large boost in performance across all applications compared to currently available products.
Intel
will launch the X58 chipset with the same ICH-10 family of southbridges currently used on its P45 platform. ICH-10 supplies up to four PCI Express x16
paths, of which two, are PCI Express 2.0 paths. Other possible combinations are: one x16 path, two x16 paths, four x8 paths, and one 16 path and two
x8 paths. Because of QuickPath however, we’re able to realize far better performance with wide bandwidth and very low latency. According to
Intel, Nehalem will initially come with a 20-bit wide 25.6 GB/sec. QuickPath link, which gives a theoretical 2x performance increase in bandwidth over
the 1600MHz FSB currently available on the X48 platform.

TechARP has updated the Windows 7 Upgrade Program schedule with some slight changes. According to the new schedule Windows update program will begin
on June 28, 2009 instead of July 1, 2009 which Neowin sighted earlier, and users who purchase PCs preinstalled with Vista between the dates June 28,
2009 - January 31, 2010 are eligible for a free Windows 7 upgrade. Microsoft will allow only 5 upgrade requests from eligible end users (consumers or
small businesses) to upgrade to Windows 7. This means that a user with 12 upgrade coupons will have to visit the fulfillment website at least 3 times
to order all 12 upgrades.

AeroXperience's Bryant Zadegan has got his hands on an exclusive look at the Windows 7 Anytime Upgrade retail boxing. Those who are familiar with
the Windows Vista Anytime Upgrade will remember that it was only pushed online, but Zadegan says that "Microsoft will indeed be pushing Anytime
Upgrade through retail channels." On Tuesday, Microsoft unveiled the final design for the regular retail box. The anytime upgrade boxes are the same
shape and design as the full version or regular upgrade boxes, except slightly smaller since they just contain a product key used to migrate Windows 7

Microsoft had this to say on its website: "In an effort to streamline the Windows Anytime Upgrade experience for our customers and open the program
to additional markets worldwide, Microsoft and its partners have decided to end digital product key distribution on February 20, 2008."
With Windows Anytime Upgrade, customers could upgrade to another version of Vista by purchasing a digital product key. Microsoft has now decided to
stop distributing product keys online. Those who now want to upgrade, will have to buy a Windows Anytime Upgrade Kit from a local retailer or from
Microsoft.

A document has leaked out that details the upgrade plans for users who purchase PC's with Vista this summer. According to the document obtained
by Tech Arp titled " The Microsoft Windows 7 Upgrade Program Rev 2.1" states that computers purchased after July 1st will be eligible to upgrade to
Windows 7 free of charge. The plan will follow in a similar path the Windows XP and Vista transition occurred. The idea behind the plan is to not
prohibit people from purchasing computers as they wait for Windows 7 to be launched.

TechARP has come up with a new revised schedule of Microsoft's Windows 7 Upgrade Program. The Upgrade Program shifts to an early date from June
28, 2009 to June 26, 2009 now. According to the new schedule, end users who purchase PCs pre-installed with Vista between the dates June 26, 2009 to
January 31, 2010 are eligible for a free Windows 7 upgrade. According to TechARP, this slight adjustment was done at the request of many OEMs to allow
for better sales over the first weekend of the Program. It is not possible for Windows XP users to upgrade to Windows 7 unlike Windows Vista users.

Earlier this week Microsoft finally confirmed to the world that Windows 7 will RTM October 22nd, a date in which we've all been waiting for. Now
that we know the date, our next question is what will Windows 7 cost consumers? Apparently Best Buy has the answer to that question, as Engadget is
reporting that a leaked memo has revealed the upgrade plans for Windows 7. According to the image above, Best Buy will offer customers to order a
Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade for $49.99 and Windows 7 Professional Upgrade for $99.99.
