20.03.2008Windows Home Server patch is out
Hewlett Packard now has its hands on the Windows Home Server (WHS) update for which it decided to delay its MediaSmart Home Server.
HardwareGeeks.com got
Microsoft to confirm that HP now has
the WHS patch. The Windows enthusiast site also is reporting that Microsoft is planning an announcement on Tuesday, September 25, about the
availability of the WHS update.
At the end of August, Microsoft officials acknowledged they were working on a post-RTM
(release-to-manufacturing) WHS update would make the platform more appealing to developers. Microsoft said at that time that it planned to make the
update available in a couple of weeks.
HP admitted in late August that it planned to delay its initial WHS shipments in order to
incorporate the Microsoft WHS update leading some to question exactly what was in the update and why it seemed to impact HP more than other WHS
vendors. HPs new official due date for its MediaSmart Server: Holiday season 2007. (Originally, HP was expected to be first out of the WHS gate,

service packs. If you currently apply your updates automatically then this update will not modify the look and feel of Automatic Updates.

17.07.2009An Update For Windows Update
An infrastructure update has been planned for Windows Update client. The gradual roll-out of this update will begin in late July. This update will
occur automatically to any system configured to either receive updates “automatically” or “notify” customers that new updates
are available for download.
For enterprise customers who use Windows Server Update Services or Systems Management Server, all updating,
including the WU client, is controlled by the network administrators, who have authority over the download and install experience. Windows Vista
customers who select “never check for updates” in their WU settings will not receive this update until they manually install updates from
Windows Update.
In this particular update, there will not make any changes to the way WU looks or feels, instead the following have been
improved:
- The length of time it takes Windows Update to scan for updates
- The speed in which signature updates will be delivered
Detailed information on this is posted on the
Microsoft Update blog.
