The Real Reason Why Windows Vista Was Delayed
Last night, during my dinner with Jim Allchin, we discussed the reasoning for delaying the consumer launch of Vista until January. Up until now, conventional wisdom would say that this is a bad move ? missing the precious holiday season sales. In fact, Microsoft has been slammed by most tech journalists about the delay. Of course, there?s always more to the story ? and Jim let us know it.

them didn't exactly happen "in the workplace," but after hours with coworkers. Close enough.

02.02.2009Windows Vista and protection from malware
On November 30, Sophos issued
its monthly report on the top
ten threats reported to them
in November of 2006. As a part
of this, Sophos also studied
Windows Vista's vulnerability
to these malware threats. I
found the information and
press discussion confusing, so
I thought I would clarify what
this really means for
customers.
In order
to understand what was really
going on here, I asked the
team to go look at the
technical facts behind the
story, and that started in the
lab. We began by observing
first-hand how these various
forms of malware affect a
Windows Vista system using a
machine that was configured
with the default settings and
without any additional
security software. What we
found was that if you are
using only the software in
Windows Vista (e.g., Windows
Mail and no add-on security
software), then you are immune
to all ten of the malware
threats that Sophos cited.

23.01.2008Microsoft's Jim Allchin Discusses Vista Security
Microsoft's Windows Vista has
undergone a series of security
tests against the top malware
threats as reported by Sophos
on November 30. The results,
according to Jim Allchin, were
a success. A clean install of
Windows Vista was immune to
all ten of the malware
threats. However, third-party
email applications, including
Microsoft's Outlook, did not
fare so well. Vista protected
the user against running
executables of known malware
threats eight out of ten
times. The two threats that
evaded Vista's barriers are
known as Bagle-Zip and
Mydoom-O. Microsoft said that
because the executables were
found in .zip attachments,
Windows Vista was unable to
alert the user they had
executed a malware threat. On
the other hand, Windows Mail,
which is available with Vista,
blocked all .zip
attachments.

11.12.2008Six reasons Microsoft will continue to lose market share
Microsoft has positioned itself at the top, a top that is targeted by hundreds if not thousands of companies. They have spread themselves from their
core identities and they are opening themselves up for a loss of market share. For this article market share is defined as a broad term where
Microsoft will lose users from its user base to its competitors. Reason #6: The Juggernaut Microsoft has always been viewed as the corporate
beast that it is. It's always easier to degrade those that are on top than those who are up and coming. Microsoft is in a position of corporate
