30.03.2006Windows Live rooted in MSN's
past
Is Windows Live just
another name for
MSN?
Of
the eight or so services that
Microsoft showed off Tuesday
at the launch of Windows Live,
its new Web-based consumer
tools, the vast majority are
reincarnations of products
that the company had either
released or tested under the
MSN
brand.
"A
lot of the Windows Live
services are things that had
already been in development by
MSN," Directions on Microsoft
analyst Matt Rosoff said.
The main Live.com
Web page is similar to the
Start.com page that has been

04.11.2005The Future of Windows Live Mail Desktop
There hasn't been much news
on Windows Live Mail desktop
since 2006, with a minor
update being released in
February. With most Windows
Live watchers expecting a v1
release at the beginning of
the year, many are wondering
what is happening to the
product. Dare Obasanjo even
joked at a rename to Outlook
Express Live.
It seems to be that
Microsoft is rethinking its
mail client strategy, with the
belief that two distinct free
mail clients for Windows Vista
(Windows Mail and Windows Live
Mail desktop) is not the way
to move forward.
Instead, Mail
desktop will evolve to become
an enhanced Windows Mail
client, which when installed
will replace Vista's Windows
Mail. For those familiar with
Mail desktop there will not be
a huge change however for
those using Windows Mail they
will benefit from the
integration of Live services.
While the
name and details of the new
product are unconfirmed,
hopefully we should soon see a
beta of Windows Live Mail for
Vista.

13.03.2007Chrome masks as Safari to fool Windows Live Mail

addition to providing important security updates, Google's most recent version of Chrome--1.0.154.46--makes it easy for followers to use Windows

Previously, Chrome-users who had wanted to be able to use Windows Live Mail would have to switch the user-agent manually, but now the browser will
identify itself properly as "Chrome" for most normal sites but as "Safari" for URLs ending with mail.live.com.

24.01.2007Critical Symantec flaws threaten Exchange e-mail
There are currently a number of "highly critical" unpatched security flaws in Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange versions 4.x, 5.x, and
6.x, according to Secunia.
In an advisory published on Monday,
Secunia warned that companies could suffer remote systems access and denial of service due to unpatched parsing vulnerabilities
in Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange, caused by third-party file viewers.
"Multiple vulnerabilities have been
discovered in Symantec Mail Security for Exchange, which can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (denial of service) and compromise a
vulnerable system," the advisory, SA27429, stated. "The vulnerabilities are caused due to various errors within certain third-party file viewers and
can be exploited to cause buffer overflows when a specially crafted file is checked."
