30.04.2009Announcing Windows Vista SP1 Release Candidate (RC)
Nick White: Today we're making available the release candidate (RC) of Windows Vista SP1 via
Microsoft Connect, and tomorrow subscribers to TechNet and MDSN will have access to those RC bits too. In addition, the RC will
be available to the public next week via Microsoft's Download Center. The release candidate phase of beta software is typically the final phase
before the RTM (release-to-manufacturing) of a product and indicates that the code has attained a significant level of performance and stability.
Let me call out several changes made since the Beta release of Service Pack 1 -- many of which came about as a result of direct
feedback from our Beta-testing community (thank you!)...

06.12.2007IT Managers Welcome Vista SP1 Release Candidate
Microsoft released a slew of product updates over the past few weeks, but the one IT administrators seem to care the most about is Windows Vista SP1,
with many already having rolled out the release candidate for the service pack or planning to do so in the near future.
In
addition to the release candidate of the Vista service pack, the software maker has rolled out other updates, including Office 2007 SP1, SharePoint
2007 SP1, Exchange 2007 SP1 and the release candidate for Windows XP SP3.
However, for some IT managers at smaller companies,
dealing with all these upgrades at the same time can be overwhelming.

11.06.2008Windows 7 Release Candidate confirmed for May 5 release
Remember that Microsoft page that said that a Windows 7 RC would be public available on May the 5th? Turns out it was dead on, as the Redmond-based
company have written a blog post confirming it. For those of you who are MSDN and TechNet subscribers, you can look forward to an April 30 release,
but as mentioned, us mere mortals are stuck waiting just over an extra month. The blog post also has some rather cool facts: at certain points during
testing, bug reports and feedback were coming in every 15 seconds for a week flat. It goes to show that beta testers really do make a difference.

04.06.2008Microsoft official hints at April for Windows 7 RC release
According to a posting on Microsoft's Swedish partner blog we could be seeing the Windows 7 release candidate in early April. The blog also hints
at a RTM and business launch of Q3 2009. According to the blog Michael Bohlin, a Windows product manager, was questioned over Windows 7 availability.
The blogger also states "the cut of all internal guesses here in the office right now is October 3 at 11.10" for the RTM date. Windows chief Steven
Sinofsky posted a blog entry today to put to rest any rumours of a beta 2 for Windows 7 and confirm the next release will be the near final release

Microsoft yesterday made Service Pack 3 RC2 available to both testers and the general public. They have provided a small script to run on your XP SP2
machine that will allow for SP3 to be available through Windows Update.
The build, now at v3311, cannot be installed over previous SP3

20.02.2008Windows 7 Release Candidate goes public... Oops
Tired of waiting for Microsoft to release the first (and likely only) release candidate of Windows 7? No worries, you can go and snatch it up now...
via torrents. Earlier today, build 7100 of Windows 7, the official Release Candidate build, leaked to the public.
While no new visual
elements stand out from previous builds, UI changes should no longer be expected this late in the game. Any changes from this point on will be, for
the most part, behind the scenes. One notable change however is Microsoft's decision to revert back to the previous active tile design for the
taskbar, as found in build 7068, as it no longer features the white hazy glow behind the icon.
The official release date of Windows 7 RC
is expected to be May 5th for the public, and slightly earlier for TechNet and MSDN subscribers.
Have you found anything new in this
build? Share it with us in our community forums...
Update: Microsoft now says the RC will be available to TechNet and MSDN subscribers on
April 30th.
