23.07.2009Microsoft getting ready for Windows 7 marketing?
Microsoft sure has been hitting hard at the competition lately with their latest round of "Laptop Hunters" ads with success, and now as we get
closer towards the final version of Windows 7, it looks like Microsoft is preparing the latest "I'm a PC" marketing featuring Windows 7. This
photo of the sticker was first revealed by our own Neowin reporter Tom Warren, and while Windows 7 hasn't been featured in the TV ads yet, I
suspect it will soon appear in the next few months. Box art and pricing for Windows 7 has also yet to be revealed, but when they are, we'll be
sure to share them, so stay tuned.

03.09.2009HP: Linux ready for most applications
Linux is ready to take on a more serious role in enterprises, a senior Hewlett-Packard executive has said.
Randy Hergett, HP's
director of engineering for open-source and Linux organization, said at the Gelato Itanium Conference & Expo in Singapore on Monday that Linux is
ready to be used in some mission-critical applications, despite a perception that there are gaps in areas such as manageability.
Linux is "ready for most applications," he said, noting that there are telecommunications companies running mission-critical databases on Linux,
and overall adoption levels are ramping up.
Citing an HP-commissioned global study conducted by market-research company GCR
earlier this year, Hergett said that three out of five decision makers were ready to deploy Linux for mission-critical applications within the next
two years, while one in five saw that happening in five years' time. ..

01.10.2007Vista: One Year Later
One year ago today,
Microsoft released Windows
Vista to manufacturing. In the obligatory anniversary post we ask: Was it ready? Will it ever be ready?
The answer to the
first question is an emphatic "no." Vista wasn't ready. Hardware manufacturers and software developers weren't ready for it. The channel and
enterprises weren't ready, and consumers couldn't get it because Vista missed holiday 2006.
Microsoft promised WOW, but the reaction was, "What?" What is
different from Windows XP? What is wrong with the hardware requirements? What is the difference between "
Capable" and "
Ready?" What is this
Software Assurance requirement for Vista
Enterprise? What happened to the familiarity of Windows XP? What is
wrong with my Vista applications and hardware?
More recently the "W" question is "When?"--as in
when will
Microsoft release Vista Service Pack 1?

On October 25, 2007, Windows Vista earned the IPv6 Forums IPv6 Ready Phase 2 Logo from the IPv6 Consortium and University of New Hampshire -
InterOperability Lab (UNH-IOL).
Vista earned its Phase 1 Logo, which focuses on interoperability of core protocols, and
compliance to MUST statements in core RFCs back in March of 2007. Phase 2 Logo is a more rigorous examination which is focused on daily professional
use of IPv6, and examines compliance to both MUST and SHOULD statements in a wider set of scenarios.
