Windows 7 build 7105 RC Milestone reached

Builds for Windows 7 keep powering forward; it seems there are new ones being reported weekly, but here's one that might be worth sitting up and paying attention for: it appears Windows 7 has reached build 7105, an RC build. But in addition to this, it's worth remembering that a Windows 7 RC could possibly be available April 10th. This timing makes it seem as though Neowin's exclusive source was dead on, and that in a few days time Microsoft will announce availability of an RC build for its latest operating system. The string for this build is 6.1.7105.0.090404-1235_x86fre_client_en-us_Retail_Ultimate-GB1CULFRER_EN_DVD, and it was compiled on April 4th.

Hyper-V Performance Counters Part one of many

Anthony Voellm: In the next few posts I'll be covering Hyper-V performance counters. There have been a lot of changes from Beta -> RC -> post RC.

In Beta the counters sets for Hyper-V were not grouped under a common namespace. This made them hard to find. In RC the counters are grouped under the Hyper-V namespace. That is each counter set starts with Hyper-V. For example Hypervisor Logical Processors are now Hyper-V Hypervisor Logical Processors. The prefix causes all the Hyper-V counters to be grouped together.

Microsoft has released two new updates for Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7 RC, via Windows Update. The first update applies only to Windows 7 RC, and will be fixed in the Windows 7 RTM. The first issue resolved is one which, according to the Microsoft Support site, caused the browser to hang, and show this error message: "A webpage is not responding on the following website: (Website name)".
