Review: dreamGEAR PS3 Shadow Wireless Controller

Presenting the PS3 Shadow Wireless Controller made by dreamGEAR. While the Shadow Wireless falls short of being a direct 360 controller clone, it is without a doubt a great, albeit it pricey, alternative for those looking for a different controller to use with their PS3.

Japan: Wii Beats PS3 5-to-1 in May

Nintendo's dominance continues, on both sides of the Pacific. The latest sales figures from Japan show that the PS3 sold just over 50,000 units during May while the Wii sold over 251K. The Nintendo DS also outsold the PSP 5-to-1 during May.

While the official numbers for the U.S. in May are not yet available, April did not treat the PlayStation 3 very well. The PS3 had its worst month, selling only 82,000 units compared to the Wii's 360,000.

Now business publication Bloomberg is reporting on new data from Japan, indicating that PS3's struggles are continuing. According to Famitsu publisher Enterbrain Inc., Nintendo sold 251,794 units of the Wii in May while Sony sold only a little over 50,000 units of the PS3. This is an even greater disparity than the 4-to-1 sales pace the Wii set over the PS3 in April. ..

PS3 sales spike up 2700% on Amazon

It seems the US$100 price cut for the PlayStation 3 in the US has sparked a PS3 comeback. Suddenly the sales seem to be coming for Sony. Lower the price and they will come.

On the Amazon.com Movers & Shakers screen currently, the 60GB PS3 at the new price is ranked number 2 in Video Game sales (was 26th) with an increase in interest of 2700 percent. The fragFX for the PS3 is now ranked number 1 with an increase of 25,480 percent.

It would seem that the sales valve has been released, all those people patiently waiting for this moment have rushed online to purchase the next generation of the PlayStation brand.

Now that the pricing question has been answered, the next interest will be in whether Sony makes any money from the sales. Hardware wise Sony lose money on the PS3, now they are losing even more...

Sony has no plans to cut PS3 price

Contrary to a report by GameDaily earlier today in which they reported on a July 12 $100 price cut, Sony's president said on Friday that Sony has no plans to cut the price of the PS3 at present to pep up demand and counter surging sales of Nintendo's rival game console Wii.

"At present we have no plans," to cut the PS3 price, Ryoji Chubachi told Reuters in an interview.

Sony has packed cutting-edge technology such as a Blu-ray high-definition optical disc player into the PS3, driving up production costs and making its retail price more than twice as expensive as the Wii.

The higher price tag has been cited has one of the main reasons the PS3 has been trailing the Wii in sales, and analysts have been widely expecting Sony to soon slash the price to spur on demand...

Report: Buyers Think PS3 Will be Under 跌

A report by Compete says that 48% of US gamers surveyed think buying a PS3 will cost under 跌 at launch, and upon being told the actual launch price 60% thought it to be too expensive. It isn't all bad for Sony though, 63% of PS2 owners are thinking about buying a PS3, where just 39% of Gamecube owners are thinking of buying a Wii.

This survey would imply that Playstation owners are more loyal than Nintendo ones, especially as 40% of Gamecube owners questioned said they were thinking of buying a PS3 this time around. The report by Compete also looked at demand for consoles on online retailing websites. This month for the first time demand for both the PS3 and the Wii has exceeded that of the Xbox 360. At present, demand for the PS3 is the highest in the US.

Now all US gamers need is some PS3 consoles to buy.

Report: PS3 $499 on July 12

Although Sony has yet to confirm a price drop officially, GameDaily BIZ has received confirmation from the retail sector that the PS3 will be dropped to $499 next week. Sony itself recently talked about "refining" the PS3 price. Now it appears to be happening.

A PS3 price cut rumor spread like wildfire across the Internet this afternoon when several sites spotted a new advertisement from Circuit City. The ad as seen on Kotaku lists the PS3 console at $499.99, $100 less than its current price.

It wasn't clear at first if this ad was a special deal specific to the electronics retailer or if it's indeed a retail-wide price cut instituted by Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA). As it turns out, a merchandising manager (who wished to remain anonymous) at one of the world's biggest retailers has confirmed to GameDaily BIZ that the price drop is indeed retail-wide and it's scheduled to take place on July 12, although the first wave of ads to promote the PS3's new price won't kick in until Sunday, July 15. ..
