Winqual account, you can access the Windows 7 Beta by entering invitation ID Win7-3HQW-RF74 on the Microsoft Connect homepage." By using this ID on
the Connect site you can gain access to Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 7 Server betas. Last week We revealed that Microsoft is currently only

Hewlett-Packard said it will likely offer at least 3 different editions of Windows 7 - The Starter, Professional and the Home Premium editions on
future models of its Mini netbooks. Kyle Thornton, category manager for Business Notebook PCs at HP, said in an interview that Windows 7 Beta
testing is going on in the Mini netbook line and it runs very well on the Minis, even with Aero turned on. Besides the three editions of Windows 7
that HP plans to support, Thornton also hopes to continue to pre-install both Windows XP Professional and Vista Business on its business-oriented
netbooks.

Paul Thurrott has released a list of the various versions in which
Windows 7 will be shipped. There are quite a few versions, but contrary to the Vista confusion, there will only be two highly-marketed versions:
Windows 7 Home Premium, and Windows 7 Professional. That's right, we're back to the good ol' XP days!
One of the largest criticisms of
Windows Vista was the overwhelming amount of product editions to choose from. You either had to sacrifice some features or pay the
Ultimate
price (ha).
In total, six versions of 7 will be shipped. Most of them however, will be offered only for small niches or emerging
markets. Here's a short breakdown of the versions we can expect:
Windows 7 Starter - Expected to be installed on many
netbooks; it can only run 3 apps simultaneously, cannot create HomeGroups, and does not feature the Aero Glass UI. It does however, feature the
enhanced taskbar.
Windows 7 Home Premium - Will be broadly marketed in new computers, and as a retail product; features
the most widely-used features such as HomeGroups, Aero Glass, the new taskbar, and multi-touch.
Windows 7 Professional -
Will be broadly marketed in new computers, and as a retail product; this version builds on the Home Premium version by adding features such as
location-aware printing, advanced backups, and offline folders.
Windows 7 Enterprise - This version will only be
available as a VLK (Volume Licence); this buils upon the Professional version, adding sought-after features such as Direct Access, Branch Cache, and
BitLocker (and BitLocker To-Go).
Windows 7 Ultimate - This version will only be marketed at a very low scale, such as
during special promotions, or with very high-end computers; it features all the same features as the Enterprise version, but without the VLK
capability.
The 6th version is the "Home Basic" version, but it will only be offered to emerging markets; it will not be available
as a retail product and thus it will mostly be ignored by the general public. Unlike Vista, Windows 7's editions will all be true
supersets of each other. This means that Home Premium will include all of Home Basic's features, and Professional will include all of Home Premium's
features (so on, so forth). It is a clear and straightforward upgrade from edition to edition. No more confusing sets of overlapping features to
choose between.
Although the product line hasn't shrunk at all, the the bulk of consumer knowledge and interest will be with the two
most prominent versions. It should be a lot easier for people to decide between the versions now. It seems Microsoft has thought long and hard about
it, and come up with a decent plan.

Just a day after Paul Thurrott revealed 'Windows XP Mode' for Windows 7, he has come out and posted a few more interesting details about the
upcoming release. Here are the following pieces of information he revealed, which he's "pretty sure this is all new info." "AAC/H.264/MPEG-2
support will not be provided to Windows 7 Home Basic and Starter customers. That functionality will only go out to Home Premium, Professional, and
Enterprise/Ultimate users. But it looks like there will be add-ons made available (free or paid, it's not clear) to users of low-end Windows 7
versions. Maximum RAM. All 32-bit versions of Windows 7 "support" 4 GB of RAM, of course.

Consumer Market Research firm NPD has confirmed that initial sales of Windows 7 have surpassed those of the Windows Vista launch. According to
NPD's weekly tracking service, Windows 7 software unit sales in the U.S. were 234 percent higher than Vista's first few days of sales. The
most popular choice for consumers was the Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade followed by the Pro upgrade and Home Premium Family Pack. According to NPD,
software sales of Windows 7 were strong compared to Vista's sales partly due to early discounts on pre-sales and a wide range of promotions.

Microsoft began its limited Windows 7 pre-order offer in the early hours this morning. A Microsoft spokesperson has confirmed to Neowin that early
indications show orders have been "strong". Microsoft has partnered with several retailers in the UK to offer both Windows 7 Home Premium E
(£49.99) and Windows 7 Professional E (£99.99) for early adopters. Microsoft will only be offering Windows 7 E in Europe, without
Internet Explorer. Company officials confirmed that no upgrade versions are available so customers who purchase Windows 7 E using the pre-order offer
will get full versions of Windows 7.
