First, some basics: we’re committing to deliver a new version of Internet Explorer for Windows XP customers. Betas of IE7 will be available this summer. This new release will build on the work we did in Windows XP SP2 and (among other things) go further to defend users from phishing as well as deceptive or malicious software.

24.01.2008XP or Vista - Which is more at risk from Windows 7?
Its been around 30 months since Windows Vista hit the General Availability milestone, and in that time the OS has only managed to claw some 18% of the
OS market share. Compare that weak market share to the aging Windows XP, which even today commands an impressive 73% market share. With Windows 7 now
only a few weeks away from the General Availability milestone, its interesting to wonder what effect 7 will have on XP and Vista market share.

Windows 7 M1 build shows up on various torrent sites
It was only a matter of time..
Not too long after Microsoft had released a developer build of the Windows 7 Milestone 1 release to a select
few, review and opinion
pieces started to leak onto Windows enthusiast sites by OEM employees or their beneficiaries. So it's hardly surprising that now -just a few
days later, the full naked DVD image has started to show up on a few torrent sites. Most have been verified as fake and removed, and while we
haven't been able to verify for ourselves if indeed the milestone has been leaked to the pirating community, it sure is stirring up a lot of
interest in the past 24hrs!

Windows Live Mail Desktop Update Available
Microsoft seems to have
finally waken up with its
Windows Live set of services:
after months of incredible
inactivity, the products
offered in the Windows Live
family have seen a whole lot
of updates recently. After the
beta refresh for Family Safety
and a new Windows Live
Messenger 8.1 build, it's
Windows Live Mail Desktop's
turn to step to another
milestone.
The
new version of the mail
client, numbered as build
1223, appears to be mostly a
"bug fixes update", except
for a completely revamped
login screen. Further changes
are still unknown at this time
since the product team has not
yet released a changelog.
If you are looking
into filing bugs concerning
Windows Live Mail Desktop, it
is recommended by the
developers that you use the
recently created Microsoft
Connect public beta program to
do so instead of the Windows
Live website because of the
added flexibility it offers.

Apple App Store Milestone: 100,000 apps
Reaching yet another milestone, Apple's App Store has broken the 100,000 approved applications mark. According to TheNextWeb, Apple has approved
101,713 applications and games. Of course, not all of these are available immediately as many have just been accepted. The App Store currently has
93,000 released applications. This is up from a reported 65,000 in August. According to iPhonesTalk, analysts have predicted the 200,000 mark will be
reached next year and by the end of 2010, there will be 250,000 applications. Some recent additions to the app store include an app from NASA which
brings countdown clocks, videos and Twitter feeds to the iPhone. Reportedly, this app will even let you know when the Space Station is passing

Windows 7 beta download imminent?
Microsoft have updated their Windows 7 site with a download link for the Windows 7 beta. It would appear from the posting that Microsoft is currently
readying site updates and download servers for the imminent release of the Windows 7 beta. Yesterday, German site Winfuture claimed that the beta
would be released today and this could confirm the sites claims. The download link is currently inaccessible. It's entirely possible that once
the page is live it will simply be a sign up page to register your interest. Microsoft will not comment on the exact date and a Microsoft official
confirmed the beta is still targetted for early 2009.
