As far as the great majority of users are concerned, Windows Vista was the greatest flop in Microsoft history and few points of view dare to contradict this.

Jeff Alexander: Windows 7 has some great tools for migration from previous operating systems. Some that come to mind are Deployment Imaging and
Service Management (DISM), mounting VHDs natively in the operating system and User State Migration. But one of the best features in my opinion and
many of my mates in the community is the ability to boot natively to a VHD. This gives you flexibility in your migration scenarios and is one way you
can preserve your settings from the previous OS installation.

09.09.2008@live address questions answered
Jacky Mok, another Product
Manager for Windows Live in
Toronto,
has posted
some information on the
upcoming @live addresses,
which he says will be
available "in the fall",
along with "a rich family of
products" around the same
time.
According to
the blog entry on
livechronicles.spaces.live.com
, there will be no migration
of address names from current
hotmail addresses, so if you
have liveside@hotmail.com,
there's no guarantee you will
get liveside@live.ca. It's
on a first come, first served
basis. Apparently country
code addresses will only be
available in countries outside
the US (I'm assuming a bit
here, as Jacky talks only
about .ca, Canadian
addresses), so that a Canadian
will be able to get an
@live.ca address, but not an
@live.com one.
Some
limited migration will be
available, for contacts. Other
information will stay with
your current accounts:
"such as: Windows
Live Spaces contents (photos,
blogs, etc), your emails,
subscription status (hotmail
plus or premium), association
with other products
(Favourites, OneCare,
etc)."
New
@hotmail.com addresses will
still be available, as they
are now.

No one likes to move. Whether its to a new home or a new operating system, a move is fraught with tedious chores and the prospect of facing unknown

For many in corporate IT right now, the move thats looming is the migration to Microsofts Vista operating system. Some

confusion, aggravation and unnecessary headaches.
And while coming up with a deployment plan for a full-on operating system
migration isnt a lightweight project, its not as difficult as you might be thinking.

30.10.2008SQL Server Migration Assistant
(SSMA) for Oracle V2.0
Released
Once upon a time,
migrating from an Oracle
database to SQL Server was a
challenge for even the most
seasoned database
administrator. Now, the SSMA
offers a complete suite of
tools to help you automate all
phases of the migration
process. SSMA enables you to
migrate from Oracle to
Microsoft SQL Server quickly,
easily and
accurately.
As you probably know,
Microsoft recently launched a
tool called SQL Server
Migration Assistant (SSMA). It
allows an easy migration of
Oracle databases to SQL
Server, focusing on
automatically converting
PL/SQL to T-SQL. Hundreds of
companies around the world
have been successfully using
SSMA to get off Oracle. Among
those you'll find Motorola,
Sony Ericsson, Dow,
Simon&Schuster, Atento, Sonata
Software, and many others.
SSMA typically automates 80%
of the code conversion, which
greatly reduces the time and
the cost of the migration. And
what's really important -
SSMA is a free
download!
Using
SSMA, the time, cost, and risk
associated with migrating to
SQL Server are greatly
reduced, which increases the
likelihood of a successful
project. This enables your
team to take advantage of SQL
Server's superior developer
productivity, scalability, and
security, as well as the
industry's lowest total cost
of ownership (TCO)...

Microsoft Partners Embracing Server Virtualization
Microsoft partners are eagerly
anticipating the new features
of Windows Server 2008, which
include network access
protection, terminal services,
Bitlocker, and beefed up
Active Directory services.
But for many
partners, the virtualization
features of the next Windows
Server are the biggest game
changer.
"Virtualization is the
next big thing and it's what
makes utility computing
possible. In addition to
allowing you to deliver backup
and disaster recovery
solutions, it also lends
itself to hardware
portability," said David
Sobel, CEO of Evolve
Technologies, a Fairfax,
Va.-based solution provider.
What Windows Server
2008 won't have, at least not
initially, is live migration.
Live migration, part of the
VMware and Xen-based
virtualization platforms,
enables users to quickly and
easily migrate virtual
machines from one system to
another system. ..

Windows Installer 4.5 will initially ship as a
Windows redistributable component via download center. At RTM, redistributable packages will support installing to Windows XP SP2 and SP3, Windows
