05.01.2006From Win32 to Cocoa: a Windows user's conversion to Mac OS XPart III
Peter Bright: In
part 1 of this series, I described
how misfortune and adversity left Apple with a new OS platform free of legacy constraints; in
part 2, I discussed how Microsoft had failed to do the same,
choosing instead to hobble its new OS with way to much legacy baggage. In this part, I look in more detail at what Apple has done with its platform to
make it so appealing.
Of course, if you're already writing software for the Mac, then I'm not going to tell you anything
you already don't know. But all of this was new to me, because it wasn't until I became so thoroughly disappointed with Windows that I really
looked in earnest at what the Mac had to offer. My mistake.

19.09.2008Microsoft User Research is looking for some warm bodies
Kevin Beares: The User Research team is looking for and inviting select customers to participate in a user research study. They are looking to learn
from companies who perform IT services for their own customers, such as backing up data, managing/installing patches, and keeping AV software
up-to-date. They would like to come to your office to talk with one or more people who perform IT services for clients and learn from them.
It is important for you to know that you do not need to do anything to prepare for this. They want to learn from you, the experts, so that
they can determine what needs to be improved in our software. This also gives you the chance to tell them what your needs and wants are, and meet with
some members of their product development team.
As you know Microsoft highly values feedback from the community. They will be
offering you free Microsoft software in appreciation of your time and participation in this research.
If this is something that
you or others at your company would be interested in, please let them know by mailing
itvisits@microsoft.com. They are currently scheduling site visits in North America for February.
