to Hyper-V within Windows Server 2008. Somehow both
Greg in Australia and
Mario in New York believe that
Hyper-V is built on Xen
. Hyper-V, the new
beta feature in Windows Server 2008 RC1, running on top of Xen .
Maybe they're confused over our July 2006 interop announcement with XenSource? Or maybe
they take too serious the work MS Research did during the development of Xen 1.x by developing a port of Windows XP to
Xen? Or maybe they're working with Oliver Stone, who is exposing yet another cover-up?
Can you
imagine GPL code running in the Windows kernal (hypervisor layer) ... now that'd be something. I think Jim Allchin would come out of retirement for that one ;-)

Why Microsoft's Tom Tom lawsuit is really an attack on Linux
What, actually, is at stake here? Microsoft has long claimed that Linux violates more than 200 of its patents, but the company has never provided any
information with regard to what those patents are--until, it would appear, now. As noted, the Redmond company is suing Tom Tom and its GPS
auto-navigation software with regard to a number of patents--eight in all. Tom Tom makes use of the Linux kernal in its products. But the kicker,
according to ComputerWorld, as far as Linux is concerned appears to be patent number 5,579,517. More specifically, we read from the patent abstract:

Ubuntu targets 10 second boot time for 2010 release
In an email to developers of the Linux distribution Ubuntu, Canonical's Scott James Remnant explained how they hope to achieve a 10 second boot
time with Ubuntu 10.04, the version to be released in 2010, after 9.10 is released this fall. The projected speed improvements come with changes to
the kernel, such as making the X.org server, which controls the display elements in Linux, load up quicker. The boot process will divided into
sections with time budgets: two seconds for Kernal and initramfs, Plumbing (drive loader), and X.org server; and four seconds for the desktop session
and other services. "This benchmark time is to a fully logged in desktop (auto-login) with an idle CPU and Disk.

After Windows 7 beta 1 leaked, many bloggers caught hold of it very soon and started testing/using Windows 7. We saw Ed Bott from ZDnet reporting
about the changes in the Windows 7 beta 1 license agreement. Adrian Kingsley-Hughes from ZDnet has benchmarked Windows 7 with its successors Windows
Vista and Windows XP. The Windows 7 build 6.1.7000.0.081212-1400 was considered for testing. Since its 32bit, it was tested against 32bit versions of
Windows Vista SP1 and Windows XP SP3.

After almost 3 years since Microsoft released Windows Vista, we are now heading for a wonderful release of Windows 7, the next version of Windows OS.
Windows 7 RC is expected to be released next month, April 10th. But, what about the next version of Windows OS? Let us call it Windows 8 for now.

Most anyone who has been following the development of Windows 7 knows that it's currently kernel version 6.1. But all that is set to change, at
least if an obscure MSDN page is to be believed. In a page describing device installation with the Windows Driver Kit, the documentation shows
"Msft.NT.7.0" being used as a label to specify drivers only for use with Windows 7.

Remember that major announcement that was planned for Windows 7 a while back? Well, it's finally here, revealed on Paul Thurrott's Windows
SuperSite. So, what is it? It's a feature of Windows 7 called 'Windows XP Mode'. So, what exactly is this new mode? As you can probably
