First Looks at Windows Vista Media Center
Microsoft's Media Center Edition of Windows XP has had a hard time. Though it's hard to call it a poor seller, MCE certainly has a market penetration that represents only a tiny fraction of the many millions of computers running Windows XP. And why should it? Most users don't have nice hi-def TVs hooked up to their PCs, or TV tuners, or really any need to enjoy their music, video, and TV stored on their PC via a 10-foot user interface. It doesn't help that the first edition of Media Center wasn't very good, either. Then again, Microsoft bounced back with its second effort, Media Center Edition 2005, one of the most improved software products ever.

Microsoft started offering Windows XP N, a version of Windows without a bundled media player, in June of this year to comply with last year's antitrust ruling by the European Commission.

9.4.2006Media Streaming with Windows 7
Steven Sinofsky: Weve blogged about a number of features related to home networking and media in Windows 7. A scenario which brings all these
together in a pretty cool way is Media Streaming. This scenario allows you to use a Windows 7 PC as a hub for media sharingwhere you can share media
with other PCs and devices on your home network via streaming, and even stream this information securely over the internet. Scott Manchester on the
Devices & Media program management team coordinated this post, but as you will see it represents work across the Core User Experience, Media Center,
Networking, and even Windows Live chose to take advantage of the new APIs in this scenario. This is a pretty detailed post and theres a lot to try
out. Those of you using the RC to test things out, you can always install on another PC and use it for the 30-day period without requiring a new PID
key. Have fun!
