We have some big news regarding the Windows 7 RTM. According to Wzor, the final sign off is set for July 13th. According to a translation, this is the final roadmap for Windows 7: FINAL ROADMAP FOR WINDOWS 7 : 6/1 - 6/19 BUILDING RTM ESCROW - already assembled RTM ESCROW. 6/22 - 7/10 RTM RECALL - assembly and search for candidates to the final RTM release. 7/10 WINDOWS 7 RTM FINAL BUILD TARGET - build day "gold code". 7/13 WINDOWS 7 RTM SIGN-OFF - the date of signing the final RTM release! We previously reported that Windows 7 could RTM at the end of this month, but it looks like we now have a final RTM date.

Windows 7's official name revealed!

The Windows team posted today, to many people's surprise, the official, final name of the new operating system.

The verdict:
Windows 7.

Microsoft is going to actually use the code-name of the OS as the final name also. I would expect the kernel version to be bumped to 7.0 as a result of this (it's currently 6.1).

Microsoft starts rolling out final Windows Server 2008 R2 bits

As promised, Microsoft has made the final Windows Server 2008 R2 bits available on August 14 for download by Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) and TechNet subscribers.



Microsoft released the final Windows Server 2008 R2 bits to manufacturing at the end of July, the same day the company RTM’d Windows 7. OEMs got the server-side complement to Windows 7 on July 29.



Microsoft posted the final Windows Server 2008 R2 code to MSDN and TechNet around 1 p.m. ET on Friday. The English, French, German, Japanese, Italian and Spanish versions are slated to be live today, with remaining languages going live on August 21.

It turns out that it might be just a notification from Microsoft a week ahead that RC is done and available for testing or it might have been a near final RC made available for testing to select testers. Microsoft has announced today that the RC of SP2 for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 is available to TechNet and MSDN subscribers to test prior to final release. Microsoft will make SP2 RC available to the general public via TechNet during next week. As expected the final version of SP2 will be made available in the 2nd quarter of 2009.
