9.6.2007Microsoft confirms Windows 7 Family Pack rumours
Microsoft confirmed the existence of a Windows 7 family pack today in a company blog post. Rumours of a Family Pack deal were originally reported by
Neowin earlier this month. The Windows 7 family pack will offer a licence for people to install Windows Home Premium on up to 3 PCs. Brandon LeBlanc
confirmed "I know there have been some rumors going around about a "family pack" for Windows 7. We have heard a lot of feedback from beta testers
and enthusiasts over the last 3 years that we need a better solution for homes with multiple PCs.

Brandon LeBlanc: I want to provide a couple of updates for my friends in Europe today in regards to Windows 7.
I want to start

As I mentioned last
month, starting with the launch of Windows 7 on October 22nd, customers will be able to buy a Family Pack in the US & Canada. This allows users to
install Windows 7 Home Premium on up to 3 existing Windows PCs for a reduced price. Its an easy and cost effective way to get customers entire

24.08.2009Blogger gets $200 check from HP for declining Vista's EULA
Blogger
uncle_benji went over to Best Buy and purchased an HP dv6815nr for $599.99
plus tax. When he saw the Windows Vista EULA and the HP EULA, he decided he wanted to move to Linux. He wasn't happy that there wasn't an option to
decline the EULA, but didn't take his revenge on Microsoft by just grabbing one of the many Linux distro install discs. Nope, first things first:
this user decided to call HP and demand a refund for Microsoft's latest operating system. After all, Microsoft's EULA does say to contact the
manufacturer if the user does not agree with it. This user simply took it a step further and made sure that he was not paying for something he wasn't
going to use.

22.07.2008Beware the gotchas in Microsoft Windows 7 upgrade, family pack pricing
Mary Jo Foley: On July 31, Microsoft went public with two key pieces of Windows 7 pricing information it had been holding back:
The cost of its Family Pack
and Anytime Upgrade licenses.
My blogging colleague
Ed Bott has all the gory
details on both, so I won’t try to repeat all the specifics here. (The Cliff Notes version: Family Pack is $150 for three PCs. Anytime
Upgrades are roughly the same price as they were with Vista with the notable exception of the upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate.) What I will repeat,
however, are a couple of gotchas that are part of Bott’s post.

27.01.2009Windows 7 in Europe: full, upgrade and family pack editions
Microsoft has confirmed that upgrade editions of Windows 7 will be available in Europe when the new operating system launches on October 22. The
company had previously said that only full version would be on offer. The initial limitation of a full, clean-install only edition was part of the
plans for Windows 7 E, a version of Windows that did not come with Internet Explorer and would be the only version available in the EU. Because
previous versions of Windows all contain Internet Explorer, Microsoft argued that there could not be upgraded to a version without the browser.

24.08.2009Windows 7 Family Pack, Anytime Upgrade prices leak
Ed Bott: History has a way of repeating itself. Back in August 2006,
Amazon Canada inadvertently
published the price list for Windows Vista before it had been officially announced. In a distribution channel the size of Microsoft’s, leaks
are bound to happen.
Now, thanks to some similarly careless online retailers, I’ve found details confirming both the
availability and price of the Windows 7 Family Pack and three Anytime Upgrade products for Windows 7. As
I reported last week, Microsoft is apparently planning to release a Family Pack that will include
three Windows 7 Home Premium licenses for a discounted price...

08.07.2009Surprises in the Windows 7 license agreement

interesting information in the Windows 7 license agreement(EULA). Bott reports that the EULA ends with an revision ID -
EULAID:Win7_B.1_PRO_NRL_en-US which confirms that this leaked build is indeed beta 1. But no one from Microsoft is ready to confirm whether this build
is indeed the beta 1 which is going to be released at CES.

24.03.2009Microsoft to offer Vista ?Family Pack? discount
Even though the retail launch
of Windows Vista just a couple

still continuing to fine-tune
its licensing and pricing
details.
Sources said that Microsoft
will announce some time over
the next few days that the
company will allow Vista
Ultimate customers to purchase
two additional copies of Vista
Home Premium for somewhere
between $50 to $99 a piece.
In order
to qualify for the so-called

customers will first need to
purchase at retail a copy of
Vista Ultimate, which carries
an estimated retail price of
$399 U.S. The deal will not be
offered to those who purchase
Ultimate preloaded on a new
PC, sources said; it will be
for customers buying and/or
upgrading via retail channels
only.

16.01.2007Microsoft drops support for Family Guy Windows 7 special

11.10.2007Google Updates Chrome EULA
As we
mentioned earlier,
Google's Chrome browser, though much hailed for its speed, does have its fair share of rust stains, including a EULA which originally gave Google
complete control over all content submitted through the browser. In this case, slightly worrying would be an understatement.
Fortunately,
the search engine has been quick to rectify this issue, attributing the whole issue to accidental copy and paste. Under Section 11 of Google's
Universal Terms of Service, Google retains a license to transmit or display content through its services, as per US copyright law. However, the
section in Chrome was not updated. Mike Yang, Senior Product Counsel at Google,
writes: "
license is limited to
providing the service. In Gmail, for example, the terms specifically disclaim our ownership right to Gmail content. So for Google Chrome, only the
first sentence of Section 11 should have applied. We're sorry we overlooked this, but we've fixed it now... "
The updated EULA now reads: " You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold
in Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services. " And, yes, these terms are retroactive.
Thanks for the
tip, CaptainSlow!
