Applet for Windows XP
The Microsoft Color
Control Panel Applet adds a
new 'Color' item to the
Windows control panel,
providing a single place to
view and edit color management
settings in Windows XP. Using
it, you can install and
uninstall color profiles,
change color profile
associations for displays,
printers and scanners, view
detailed properties for color
profiles (including a 3D
rendering of the color space
gamut), and rename color
profiles, keeping the
filenames and "internal"
names
consistent.
This tool also enables
Windows to automatically
adjust the gamut curve of the
display when a color profile
containing gamut table
information is set as the
default profile for the

profiles are created by custom

Application Specific Glass Colorization in Windows 7?
Microsoft might be introducing application specific glass renderings. The color of the glass frame around a window can be changed in Vista, but the
change is global to the system. The color of any particular window glass frame can not be set by choice. But, how about being able to change the
color/opacity level of a the glass frame of any application through defined events or commands? According to a Patent number 7418668:
A
method for changing a color value and/or level of opacity value of a glass appearance window frame for an application window is described. The method
includes steps of determining a defined color value and a defined level of opacity value to apply to a glass appearance window frame and displaying
the glass appearance window frame in accordance with the defined color value and the defined level of opacity value. A command may be received to
apply the defined color value and the defined level of opacity value to the glass appearance window frame, thereby applying the defined color value
and level of opacity value to the glass appearance window frame. Color values and/or level of opacity values may be changed automatically, be
application specific, and/or be changed in response to receipt of an input from a user to change one or more portions of a default configuration.

Wikipedia to begin color coding untrustworthy text
Hot on the heels of Wikipedia's decision to begin using editors for certain pages, they've announced another method of attempting to keep
things accurate on their website. According to Wired, the organization will begin color coding the text of their entries in orange, to indicate
untrustworthiness, based on a couple of factors. The feature will be aptly named "WikiTrust", and will color the text after analyzing the
reliability of the author in question, as well as how long the text has been on the entry. Virgil Griffith, a Wikipedia software developer and
neuroscientist at the California Institute of Technology, said, "They've hit on the fundamentally Darwinian nature of Wikipedia.

Black Maximized Windows Borders Fixed
The Windows team posted an
exciting post on their new
Shell:Revealed blog, giving
people who wanted the black
maximized window borders to
disappear a rest, because the
problem is apparently fixed
starting from today's builds.
Due to the very short time
limit until the upcoming RC2
build, we're still unsure
whether the final version
distributed to testers will
feature that change.
The "fix", although
quite welcome, isn't really
what people asked for:
"In the end, we decided
that we like the black and
think it is the right thing to
do, but we want to respect the
user's color choice for users
who bother to make a change.
So - starting in today's
build, we have significantly
backed off the amount of black
that is mixed in with the
user's color for maximized
windows". Basically,
they are offering people the
choice to customize the color,
although there will still be a
black shade to it. The fix
isn't apparently very
noticeable on the default
color, though it is most
useful on strong colors.

Windows Vista timetable now a

Microsoft has clarified a

Microsoft

some sucess. CTP releases are

as a subtle way of building
product awareness before its
launch...

Microsoft hopes scRGB will improve photo colors
For a computer, dealing with color is just another math problem. And Microsoft wants to change the way your PC counts.
The
company has developed a color space--a
way to encode colors as numbers a computer can process--called scRGB. If the company succeeds in getting it to catch on, the technology could help add
depth and richness to photos taken with digital cameras and viewed on a computer or TV screen.
Today's cameras and computers
usually employ a color space called sRGB, developed in the 1990s by Microsoft
and Hewlett-Packard, that describes colors as a particular combination of red, green, and blue. But sRGB is limited both in the breadth of colors it
can display and in the subtlety of the tonal shades that separate bright from dark, and scRGB is designed to lift those limits.
