Big review of Vista December 2005 CTP (Build 5270)
I think people are going to be surprised by how good the Windows Vista December 2005 Community Technical Preview (CTP, or build 5270) really is. After years of painful delays and an uncertain couple of months since the last CTP, Microsoft shipped a near-feature-complete Vista build to testers this week, and the prognosis is extremely positive.
From what I can see, Vista has turned the corner. The December CTP is an exciting release, stable and full of new features. In this review, I'll examine those new features, and the features that have changed since the previous CTP, build 5231.

My Office 12 Review
A few weeks ago the Microsoft Office team worked hard to get Beta 1 out of the door to beta testers via Microsoft Beta. This build was quite successful in all products of Office.
Unfortunately, Microsoft Office ?12? does not come with a new product but the same products that have many changes will keep testers busy until Beta 2! During the Beta phase of Office 2003, Code-named ?Office 11? and referred to as NGO (Next Generation of Office), brought new applications to the table. These applications were InfoPath and OneNote.

Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 Review
A Little History
Virtualization software is nothing new, and dates back quite some time. One of the most popular examples for the end user was Connectix Virtual PC for the Mac. Since there are a pretty huge number of programs that are only available on Windows, this created a strong market niche to let Mac users run Windows programs, even if at reduced speed.
Virtual PC for the Mac, rather than emulating Windows, emulated the x86 architecture and the requisite peripheral devices, such as a video and sound card. This meant that emulation could work quite flawlessly, but also that any user would need to purchase a copy of Windows as well and then install it onto the Virtual PC. Virtual PC was a success and Connectix later created a Windows version which let you run most x86 OSes ? something quite useful for developers, enthusiasts, and IT professionals.

8.9.2006Windows 7 build 7022 leaks
Microsoft are currently working hard towards the Release Candidate of Windows 7. Currently the only official build available to testers and the
general public is build 7000 but we have learned that 7022 has leaked to the internet today. According to a Russian torrent site it was leaked by
"friendly" Microsoft Ukraine individuals. It's not likely that the build contains any of the UAC changes Microsoft has recently promised. The
build is Build 7022.winmain.090115-1850 which indicates it was built nearly a month ago. Some Microsoft employees have twittered recently that they
were "installing build 7034" so the company is clearly pushing ahead with the builds ready for the upcoming Release Candidate.

at PDC (Professional

Microsoft proudly unveiled the
latest incarnation of its new
flagship desktop operating
system. Windows Vista build
5219 is to date the most
complete and stunning look at
this new next-generation OS
we've seen yet.
It
seems that with every major
release so far of Vista we've
had a bit of controversy. This
time it was leaked screenshots
that were from another build
date of 5219. Those shots show
quite a number of things that
you won't see with this build
(or they're just disabled by
default). It will come as a
disappointment to many of you
who were looking forward to
all of those features. Fear
not though, there are many
many changes in this PDC build
that will keep you poking
around for quite some
time.
I've had the
opportunity to play with this
build some and can report a
few changes before we get
started taking a look at
it.

Windows 7 build 7137 leaked
Barely two weeks after build 7127 leaked we have another fresh leak of Windows 7, build 7137. This time around the build tag is 7137.0.090521-1745
meaning this build is only a week old. As ever the build is available at the usual places but it might be worth waiting until RTM as a lot of Windows
7 torrents have been hit by malware and viruses recently. Microsoft is still on target to finalise Windows 7 over the summer with a general
availability this fall. Un-official wallpaper not included by default, thanks to djlegion for the screenshots.

Windows 7 build 7229 leaked
Another Windows 7 build has leaked. This time it's build 7229. Sources are indicating that unless there is a leak internally from Microsoft, this
would be last build leaked before the RTM. The build string is 7229.0.090604-1901 meaning that it was compiled a week ago. Earlier this week, build
7227 leaked to the public. Initial reports indicate that you can not use your RC keys with this build, so if you want to activate properly you
should not upgrade to this build. Windows 7 is still on track for a July RTM, and it's possible that it may even RTM by the end of June.
Microsoft has announced that it will be available in stores October 22nd.

Microsoft to RTM Windows 7 this week? Build 7260 leaks
Earlier today Neowin reported that Windows 7 build 7232 had leaked. What a difference a few more hours makes, now 7260 has leaked and the Russian site
Wzor claims that Microsoft will build the RTM (release to manufacturing) build between June 15-19. If Wzor is correct, and that's a big if and
rumour, then we may see the final Windows 7 RTM build ready this weekend. Internal sources indicate that 7260 is still the latest build under the
win7_rtm branch. Build 7260 carries the tag 7260.win7_rtm.090612-2110 and is an RTM escrow build meaning vigorous testing will commence to ensure this
is the final code unless there are show stopper bugs.
