13.01.2009Microsoft starts two new blogs focused on Windows 7
Microsoft has started two new blogs centered around Windows 7, to complement the existing "
Engineering Windows 7" blog most Microsoft enthusiasts are already used to reading.
The first one hosted on the
Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) titled "
Windows 7 Blog for
Developers" and is centered around Microsoft CEO Steve Balmer's favorite subject... developers, developers, developers! Specifically those
developers who want to take advantage of new code features being implemented in Windows 7. In the first post, poster yochayk states that the
blog is intended to be a "one stop shop on the road to get yourself familiar with what Windows 7 has to offer for developers and how you can light-up
using Windows 7 features in your application."
The second one is hosted on Technet and is titled "
Springboard Series" and is centered around IT professionals in an
effort to decrease the amount of misinformation out there among that group. Commentary about new features or fixes, as well as best practices for
administrating Windows 7 are a few of the goals of this blog. The Springboard Series blog will also feature information about administration on
previous version of Windows.
It would seem that Microsoft is trying to get an early start on getting positive spin out about Windows 7 and
perhaps as learned from some of the mistakes made by the launch of Windows Vista.

14.10.2008How to Move Your Windows XP Application to Windows 7
Yochay Kiriaty has put together a series of posts to help you move your
Windows XP application to
Windows 7 on the
Windows Team for Developers blog. The series began with
Is Your Application Ready for
Windows 7 RTM? and continues with
User Account Control Data
Redirection. Other posting are promised. But these two provide the keys to most issues.
With general availability of Windows
7 coming on October 22, now is the time to move those Windows XP applications to Windows 7. Almost all applications that run under Windows Vista
will work well with Windows 7.
But what should you look for in those applications that just run on Windows XP or
earlier?

05.08.2009Clearing up the Windows Live confusion

Azure, at PDC (see ZDNets excellent coverage from
Mary Jo Foley,

Internet-based applications in tandem with Windows 7. Heres whats really happening.

15.05.2008Windows 7 -- Approach to System Performance
Steven Sinofsky: Many folks have commented and written email about the topic of performance of Windows. The dialog has been wide rangingfolks
consistently want performance to improve (of course). As with many topics we will discuss, performance, as absolute and measurable as it might seem,
also has a lot of subtlety. There are many elements and many tradeoffs involved in achieving performance that meets everyones expectations. We know
that even meeting expectations, folks will want even more out of their Windows PCs (and thats expected). Weve re-dedicated ourselves to work in this
area in Windows 7 (and IE 8). This is a major initiative across each of our feature teams as well as the primary mission of one of our feature teams
(Fundamentals). For this post, I just wanted to frame the discussion as we dig into the topic of performance in subsequent posts. Folks might
find this post on
IE8 performance relevant along with the
beta 2 release of IE 8.

12.12.2008Windows 7 to get parallel-processing tweaks
Microsoft has shared bits and pieces of how it is
adding new features to its development tools to
better support parallel processing. But the next release of Windows client and server also are going to incorporate changes designed to improve
their parallel-processing support.
While Microsoft execs and those who’ve managed to get their hands on
early builds of Windows 7 have focused largely on user-interface tweaks in Windows 7, there will
be some under-the-covers changes, too. Microsoft officials have said on the record that deep-level changes between Windows Vista and Windows 7 will be
kept to a minimum, in order to insure application and driver compatibility. Yet Microsoft officials acknowledge that Win32, the core of Windows, is
not suited for asynchronous, concurrent computing.

details are becoming clearer as to how Microsoft plans to do this.
