Microsoft sends out Windows Live Beta Community Invitation

Microsoft has sent out invitations for participation in a pre-release program dubbed the "Windows Live Beta Community". The e-mail asks its recipient to head over to the Invitations section at Microsoft Connect and input the included invitation ID, after signing in with a valid Windows Live ID. A survey normally ensues, but this time the go button takes the invitee directly to the Windows Live Beta Community web page. The page isn't anything special but it is more extensive than typical beta pages. For now, it is structured into 7 areas which answer simple FAQs. It is evident that the program is aimed at beta testers who are particularly active and genuinely want to help Microsoft develop and improve Windows Live products. What Microsoft has planned for these testers, however, is currently unclear, but the software giant made sure to throw out many Thank Yous already.

Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta Goes Public

Didn't get an invitation for the beta last month? No worries, late yesterday, Microsoft officially released the beta to the public. That's right, anyone can get it.

Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta (otherwise known as Windows Live Mail Center) is now available to download on ideas.live.com. Users must sign up for the beta before being able to download it, enrollment is instant.

To download the beta, simply go to Windows Live Ideas and click on "Sign Up" under Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta.

Once you have completed that, a download link will become available and you will be able to use WLMD.

Windows 7 Home Premium and Server betas available to public

Microsoft released the Windows 7 betas to the public last week. The software company also sent out a hardware newsletter to its ecosystem partners on Friday January 9th detailing the Windows 7 beta. In the newsletter the spokesperson mentions "If you are a hardware partner but do not have a Winqual account, you can access the Windows 7 Beta by entering invitation ID Win7-3HQW-RF74 on the Microsoft Connect homepage." By using this ID on the Connect site you can gain access to Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 7 Server betas. Last week We revealed that Microsoft is currently only offering the Home Premium bits only to 1000 testers for Windows Any Time Upgrade testing.

You should have received an invitation to "Windows Live Beta" a few weeks ago, and if you completed that, you're in! Make sure to sign up for Folders as early as possible:

Deployment 4 Beta 3 is part of the Windows Server 2008 Beta and TAP Programs. It is also available as an open beta download.



To join Deployment 4 beta 3 program, follow these steps:

1. Visit the Microsoft Connect Web site (http://connect.microsoft.com).

2. Click Invitations on the Connect menu.

3. You will need to sign in using a valid Windows Live ID before you can continue to the Invitations page.

4. Enter your Invitation ID in the box. Your invitation ID is: BDDP-QMYH-VWTH

5. Click Go.

6. If you have not previously registered with Microsoft Connect, you might be required to register before you continue with the invitation process.

'Albany': New Microsoft 'home office' in the works?

The beta invitation for Albany is cryptic, according to testers who received the invite and asked not to be named. 10,000 Participants Join Home Server Beta

At the beginning of this week, Joel Sider, Sr. Product Manager, Windows Server PR, said that the Windows Home Server team was sending out invitations to the limited beta 2 program by the truckload. Well, he wasn't far from the truth.

As of this week, the number of requests for participations on the second beta to the Windows Home Server has jumped in excess of 25,000. This amount of response is immense when you take into consideration the fact that, at the beginning of January 2007, this product was a Microsoft inhouse secret.

?Last Friday, we invited the first 10,000 people who filled out the survey to join the Windows Home Server Beta 2 program. Here are a few stats: 9,835 people entered a valid e-mail address, 6,693 have activated their Connect Invitation ID, 5,686 have acquired a product key from the Connect site for installing the software,? revealed Todd Headrick, the product planner for the Microsoft Windows Home Server.

And this is not enough. The Windows Home Server team will continue to welcome participants to the beta 2 program. At this point in time, none of the members of the WHS team has indicated what the limit will be. ?We hope to be sending out another bunch of invitations soon ... thanks for your patience,? Headrick added.
