14.09.2007Firefox 3 Beta 4 review
Percy Cabello: Firefox 3 Beta 4 is about to be released (later today or tomorrow), as the twelfth milestone, in what already is the longest
development time for a Firefox version since the initial Firefox 1.0 back in 2004.
Fortunately, Mozilla has not been shy to set
as many milestones as needed, and given the many new features and tweaks Firefox 3 introduces, it seems anything but sensible, specially considering
its not only about Firefox but Gecko, the web page rendering engine and the Mozilla platform as a whole which affects the many products based on
it.

10.03.2008Windows 7 to get parallel-processing tweaks
Microsoft has shared bits and pieces of how it is
adding new features to its development tools to
better support parallel processing. But the next release of Windows client and server also are going to incorporate changes designed to improve
their parallel-processing support.
While Microsoft execs and those who’ve managed to get their hands on
early builds of Windows 7 have focused largely on user-interface tweaks in Windows 7, there will
be some under-the-covers changes, too. Microsoft officials have said on the record that deep-level changes between Windows Vista and Windows 7 will be
kept to a minimum, in order to insure application and driver compatibility. Yet Microsoft officials acknowledge that Win32, the core of Windows, is
not suited for asynchronous, concurrent computing.

26.08.2006Featured: Windows Vista Service Pack 1
It's no secret now that a
pre-beta version of Windows
Vista's first service pack,
Service Pack 1 (SP1), has
leaked to the general public.
So, what's new?
I can tell you
straight away, that if you
were expecting a massive
overhaul to the user
interface, you will be
disappointed. After posting
our usual screenshot gallery,
some of our early SP1-adopting
members took it upon
themselves to snoop around and
find what differences, if any,
there was.
Well, it turns out that
hidden within the little nooks
and crannies of SP1, there are
a few new interesting UI
tweaks. Thanks to Long Zheng
for bringing our findings to
light, feel free to read on
about them at his blog -
here.
Some of our members are still
actively searching for more
changes, so keep an eye out on
our screenshots thread (Link
below).
But we all know that UI
isn't everything. One of
Vista's biggest "downers"
was its performance, or lack
thereof. The general voice of
users is that Vista's
performance is nowhere near
that of its predecessor,
Windows XP. However, SP1 has
changed that. Most users will
notice straight away that the
general responsiveness of
Vista has been greatly
optimized. So, is it as good
as XP now? Not quite, but
it's not far off. However,
let's not forget that this is
still Pre-Beta; we've got a
long road ahead of us.

03.01.2009Windows 7 Beta - When will it arrive?
Still a few hours away for CES, it is known that Microsoft is going unveil the Windows 7 Beta at CES. But it is still unsure when would users be able

information available from this Microsoft blog: Attend an upcoming MSDN Developer Conference and you will receive a Windows 7 Beta 1 DVD - and that
immediate upcoming MSDN Developer Conference is on January 13th, which is next Tuesday! At the worst, expect a public beta release next week as the

27.06.2007Office 2007 Beta 2 Refresh
Tomorrow
Microsoft on Thursday will
release a Technical Refresh
build of Office 2007 Beta 2,
which originally debuted to
the public in late May. The
update brings to the table a
number of performance and
reliability improvements in
all Office applications.
By any measure, the
beta program for Office 2007
has been an astounding success
for Microsoft. The company has
counted 3.5 million people
downloading the pre-release
code, and has gathered a vast
amount of feedback by tapping
into the general public.
Like Beta 2, the
Technical Refresh will be
available for public download
at a cost of $1.50, a nominal
fee Microsoft has added in
order to recoup some of the
distribution fees associated
with the beta. Current Beta 2
customers, however, will
receive the update free of
charge.
