Sparkle produces the first 80 nanometre Nvidia card

MANY businesses in Europe will be closed from Monday till probably January the 3rd 2007. That hasn't stopped Sparkle from announcing its Calibre P768 card based on Geforce 7600 GT 80nm chip. I guess Nvidia had to do it in 2006 as it promised to its investors it was supposed to shift from 90 nanometre to 80 a while ago.

The new 80 nanometre parts will end up clocked at 650MHz - 90MHz faster than the previous 7600 GT clock. The chip behind it is G73 but we don't know what Nvidia calls the new 80 nanometre ones. The memory on Sparkle card works at 1600MHz and Nvidia hasn't changed the chip memory support as it still works with 128 bit memory only. The card comes with 256MB memory and has twelve rendering pipelines. It supports PCIe 16X interface.

For the week ending 12 November 2007, DVD's share of the Japanese retail disc recorder sales was 80.2 per cent, down from 83.4 per cent the previous week, GfK's figures - supplied, we should say, by the Japanese wing of the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) - show. For the previous three weeks, moving backwards, DVD's share was 84.8 per cent, 91.9 per cent and 94.7 per cent, respectively.

Microsoft denies iPod competitor rumors

Quite a few rumors have spread all over the web in the last few weeks, about Microsoft working with 8 other companies, trying to create a competitor to the iPod, mainly in the Japanese market, and which would work together with Windows Media Player 11 and its URGE Online music service.

"The announcement that came out of Japan this week was simply about the Japanese launch of Windows Media Player 11," says a Microsoft representative, by the same denying the rumors. According to this representative, Microsoft would, instead of making its own device, work with its devices partners, such as iRiver Japan, NTT DoCoMo, CreativeMedia, Toshiba, and Victor JVC. It would also work with some other online music service providers, such as OCN Music Store and Napster Japan.

YouTube offers concession to Japanese copyright group

YouTube will start displaying a notice in Japanese on its Web site warning users against uploading copyright content, its two founders told representatives of a broad group of Japanese copyright holders on Tuesday in their first face-to-face meeting. The Japanese language message was the only concession YouTube offered in the meeting, according to those present. No time frame was given for when the message will appear.

The meeting, which ran for about two hours, was held in response to a complaint made in December last year by a group of 23 Japanese TV broadcasters and associations representing copyright holders. The group had also asked YouTube to register the names and addresses of users making uploads and terminate the accounts of those who illegally upload copyrighted content. "The meeting went quite well and it was a very friendly manner," said Satoshi Watanabe, manager of the transmission rights department at the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers. JASRAC sent the original complaint on behalf of the other companies and associations and Tuesday's meeting was held at its Tokyo headquarters.
