environment. Adding one or more language packs to a Windows Server® 2008 image enables one or more languages in the installed Windows Server®

27.02.2008Disappearance Of Vista Language Packs
On Friday 24 August, an internal process change inadvertently caused the current versions of the Windows Vista language packs offered as Ultimate
Extras to be withdrawn earlier than normal in preparation for release of new updates to these language packs. This situation has since been resolved
and the language packs are once more available to Windows Vista Ultimate customers via Windows Update. The content of the language packs themselves
has not been changed.
Finer points:
▪ Validation of these language packs is handled in the
same manner as security updates.
▪ If they are accessed directly from Microsoft.com Download Center, then validation is required to
download.
▪ If they are accessed via the Windows Update control panel, then validation is required before updates will appear.
▪ If Automatic Update (AU) is enabled in Windows Update, then all of these updates will install automatically. There is no validation on AU.

Some people may have noticed that the Windows Ultimate Extra Language packs went missing over the weekend, many suspected a prelude to new updated Extras. Turns out
it was in internal Microsoft process change that inadvertently caused the currently offered language packs to be withdrawn. They have resolved the

30.08.2007Remaining Ultimate Extra Language Packs Released
We are pleased to announce the release of the remaining 19 languages packs for Windows Vista Ultimate. This Ultimate Extras release brings the total
number of language packs for use with Windows Vista Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI) to 35. Windows Vista Ultimate enables users install
multiple languages on their system and quickly switch between them by associating a system language with their login name.
MUI is
particularly useful in multilingual homes where multiple people use a single computer and choose different languages for their primary use. People who
wish to learn a new language will also find MUI to be a particularly useful feature. We are aware of a very large number of customers who have
purchased Ultimate for this feature specifically and are gratified that these customers can now realize the full benefit of Windows Vista Ultimate.
The languages we are adding today are as follows...

25.04.2009MISSING: Vista Ultimate Language Packs
If you thought the Ultimate Extras situation couldnt get any worse, then you have much to learn young Jedi, because rock bottom is only an illusion.
It appears that what was left of the Ultimate Extras - 16 language packs (I know, they are counted as extras) - have now been sucked into the void of
unknown.
Whether this is a widespread technical glitch or intentional symptom as a result of upgrades to the backend in
preparations for more and better Ultimate Extras remains to be speculated. Even if all my moneys on a technical glitch, there is still a quantum
chance the Ultimate Extras team will deliver on their latest promise to ship the final version of DreamScenes and the remaining 20 Language Packs
before the end of summer (September).
However for those of you who are in need of their language fix, a Channel9 member has
kindly posted the language pack
download links directly
from the Windows Update servers.

28.08.2007Ultimate Extras, Two Weeks and Counting
We are in the final two weeks of summer and still no word on what or if anything is happening with Ultimate Extras.
The Ultimate
Extra blog still hasn't been updated since July 2nd when it said it intended to deliver DreamScene and the Language Packs by the end of
summer.
We intend to ship Windows DreamScene and the remaining 20 Language Packs by the end of the summer. We will not ship the last two Extras
showcased in January (Windows DreamScene and the remaining 20 Language Packs) until they meet the high quality bar required by our enthusiastic
customersand we believe that we can achieve that bar by the end of this summer.
I don't know about you, but I am beginning to think they
won't make it.

08.09.2007Windows Vista Ultimate Extras, Less than 3 days and counting
Microsoft has 2 & 1/2 days left until Summer ends and the first day of fall officially starts. and still no word on what or if anything is happening
with Ultimate Extras.
The Ultimate Extra blog still hasn't been updated

huge corporation fails to keep its Software users up-to-date on whats going on with the development of the extras.

20.09.2007Windows DreamScene released!
Barry Goffe: In early July, I wrote about The Ultimate Teams intention to ship the remaining promised Ultimate Extras (DreamScene and the remaining
Language Packs) by the end of the summer. Unfortunately summer never really came to Seattle this yearso we missed our cue. That being said, we are
pleased to announce that Windows DreamScene is now available.
As most of you already know, Windows DreamScene transforms your
desktop from a static wallpaper image into a full-motion video. In conjunction with Stardock, were pleased to also offer a number of cool, new
animated DreamScene desktops, including Aurora. Additionally, you can use your own videos as DreamScene desktops or visit Stardocks
Dream.WinCustomize.com website to download Stardocks
DeskScapes (an add-on to DreamScene) as well as a collection of fabulous
content created by Stardock and members of the Ultimate community.
While we are excited about shipping DreamScene, the remaining
19 language packs are, unfortunately, not yet ready for release. Recently we realized that Ultimate customers who tried to install the language packs
that shipped earlier this year were experiencing an unacceptably high number of failures during installation. We continue to make delivering the
highest quality, most secure Extras our top priority, and we will not ship any Extra until it is absolutely ready. We know this is disappointing, and
again we apologize, but we are working hard to ensure that all of the remaining language packs will be ready for release by the end of October.
On a different topic, as the broad beta for Windows Vista SP1 nears, people have noticed that the screen which welcomes customers to
Windows Ultimate Extras has changed. Our intent in making this change was simply to broaden the definition in anticipation of a broader range of
Ultimate Extras being available in the futurethat do not necessarily map to the original, narrow definition.
While I can
understand how community sites and bloggers may have read the new definition and assumed that Microsoft is not shipping any more Extras, in reality
the opposite is true. In addition to the remaining Language Packs, we plan to ship a collection of additional Windows Ultimate Extras that we are
confident will delight our passionate Windows Vista Ultimate customers. We will shed more light on these plans once the Language Packs are finally
dislodged from our delivery pipeline!
Thanks for your patience and your continued support.
I look forward to
sharing more positive news in the near future.

Several Neowin members have reported that Microsoft has begun shipping Windows 7 house party packs from their house party fulfillment centers. In an

blogger emailed Steve Ballmer directly. Included in the pack was the following: Windows 7 tote bagsWindows 7 branded napkinsPuzzle PackWindows 7

02.10.2009Microsoft releases remaining Vista SP1 language packs
Microsoft Corp. today released the remaining 31 language editions of Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) to Windows Update. Today's move followed
the debut of the first five languages -- English, French, German, Japanese and Spanish -- posted by Microsoft to the Windows Update (WU) service on
March 18. Before that, the company had warned customers that it would issue SP1 in two waves, and said the follow-on languages would probably be
issued this month.
When Microsoft unveiled SP1 via WU, users griped about not being able to download the service pack because of balky
device drivers. As an alternative, Microsoft made available a much larger standalone installer that ignores any possible driver issues. The installer
was also updated today to support all 36 languages, and is available in 32-bit and 64-bit editions.
Microsoft had also slated automatic
download and installation of SP1 for "mid-April," possibly earlier, but the mid-point of the month came and went Tuesday without the company pushing
the service pack to every eligible Vista user. Instead, users must call up Windows Update and manually select the still-optional download.

Microsoft made the two
hotfixes
the reliability/performance pack (KB 938194) and the compatibility and
stability pack (KB 938979) available to interested parties via the Windows download site on August 7. At that time, the Softies said Microsoft
would push the Vista hotfix packs out to customers via Windows Update at an unspecified later date.
That date ended up being
today. Both fix packs went out over Windows Update as recommended (not important) updates.

29.11.2006A Philosophy for tuning Management Packs
Deploying management packs involves planning, evaluating in a test environment, and finally importing the management pack along with any changes from
test to your production environment. You also will want to decide which management packs you want to deploy, and in what order. Some applications have
dependencies on others, so you may want to implement the related management packs as you deploy those products.
For example, say
you use Exchange Server. Exchange requires Active Directory, which in turn utilizes DNS. You would want to first test and implement in order the
dependencies, e.g. the DNS MP, then AD, and finally Exchange. Another consideration is where you might get the most "bang for the buck" - which
management packs give you the most benefit for the least amount of cost (tuning, resources, or effort). The order in which you implement management
packs will depend on the priorities of your organization and your goals for monitoring.
