By linking your Live ID to your user account in Windows 7 (from build 7048), you can now stream your home media to your another PC/laptop connected to a work or public network. Both your home network PC and work network PC should be linked to the same Live ID account. The media is streamed always from home network to work or public network. This feature partially worked in build 7048, but works pretty neat in the recent 7057 build.

Internet Explorer is now an optional feature in Windows 7

Along with various other changes that are to be reflected in Windows 7 RC, here is a big change that is not in the list. From Windows 7 build 7048, Internet Explorer(IE) is an optional Windows feature and can be installed/uninstalled from Windows 7. This will be a welcoming (and surprising) news, especially to European Union and Opera who have accused Microsoft for not giving consumers a genuine choice of Web browsers. If IE is upgraded to version 8 in Vista (from version 7), users do get an option to uninstall IE 8, but not IE 7. IE 7 remains as integral component of Windows Vista which cannot be removed.

Internet Explorer 8 can be removed from Windows 7

Bryant: Thanks exclusively and entirely to efforts between Chris Holmes and me, we discovered that Internet Explorer 8 can be removed from at least Windows 7 build 7048, which is a good sign for regulatory overlords in the EU and in the States. Given that this change doesn’t exist in Beta 1, the odds that this change will persist through to RC are quite high. Dont believe this can be done? Dell Offers 32GB SSD on Select Latitude Models

Looking back, I have posted quite a number of news articles on solid state disk drives. Let me tell you, I'm not about to stop. They are quieter and cooler, faster and lighter, and consume much less power than the traditional hard disk drive. They cost more per GB, however, but as technology advances, prices go down. To do that, consumers must be able to purchase them easily. The world's second largest PC manufacturer is doing its part.

Dell has begun to offer the January 2007-announced 1.8" SanDisk UATA 5000 drives on its Latitude D420 ultra-mobile and Latitude D620 ATG semi-rugged notebooks. SanDisk's 1.8" SSD drive features patented TrueFFS flash management technology, a MTBF of 2 million hours, read speeds of 62MB/sec and had an average access speed of 0.12 milliseconds. The drive reportedly boosts overall system performance by 23% and reduces boot times by 34% on the D420 and D620. The SanDisk UATA 5000 is currently available as a $450 option on the D420 and a $300 option on the D620 ATG. The drive is also available direct from Dell at a price of $549.
