Windows 7 Pre-Beta Build Leaked

"Oops!"

A build being demoed at WinHEC China this week, build 6956, was leaked by a show attendee, but in an unusual fashion, taking advantage of a new feature in Windows 7.

The attendee managed to clone the demo machine's hard drive into a VHD file, a virtual hard drive format that is fully supported in Windows 7. He then moved the image onto his portable drive and walked away from the booth, never caught by any Microsoft employee or security.

Since Microsoft will probably not use a GPO to disable VHD creation on demo machines (it is a new feature, after all), it will be interesting to see if future builds are leaked in the same routine. It's surprising that copying files to removable disks wasn't disabled on these machines as the ones at PDC were.

Looking for some eye candy? Screenshots at the source.
