As much as Microsoft is trying to make the availability date for the next iteration of the Windows client ambiguous, officially pointing to a development process scoped for 2010, Windows 7 is actually dropping at the end of 2009, were we to believe Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer.

TechARP has come up with a new revised schedule of Microsoft's Windows 7 Upgrade Program. The Upgrade Program shifts to an early date from June
28, 2009 to June 26, 2009 now. According to the new schedule, end users who purchase PCs pre-installed with Vista between the dates June 26, 2009 to
January 31, 2010 are eligible for a free Windows 7 upgrade. According to TechARP, this slight adjustment was done at the request of many OEMs to allow
for better sales over the first weekend of the Program. It is not possible for Windows XP users to upgrade to Windows 7 unlike Windows Vista users.

According to a draft announcement leaked to TechArp by a Microsoft OEM partner, the company is planning on allowing users who purchase new PC/laptop
hardware (with Vista) from 1st July 2009 onwards, a free upgrade to Windows 7. The draft states "Windows Vista PCs preinstalled with qualifying
software must be purchased by end users between these dates. OEMs may choose to offer a shorter program period within the allowed date range." The
dates are 1st July 2009 to general availability of Windows 7 which is currently un-announced.

Cnet has come up with a report saying that Microsoft is set to release Windows 7 by the end of this year's holiday shopping season based on PC
industry sources in Asia and the U.S. According to the ZDNet Taiwan site, Taiwan hardware vendors are certain about Windows 7's final official
release in 2009. As pointed out by some computer manufacturers, the official version of Windows 7 will be available ahead of the planned schedule,
that is before October this year. The English version of the OS will be available to system operators in August, and the Chinese version in October.
Microsoft will officially pre-market Windows 7 now by labeling Windows Vista computers with Windows 7 ready stickers.

On Tuesday, Microsoft released a patch for a hole in Windows 2000 and Server 2003 and
2008 that could allow an attacker to redirect network traffic to a malicious site that has been set to serve as a proxy.
The
vulnerability, rated important by Microsoft, allows IT managers to set a Windows Proxy Auto-Discovery, or WPAD, entry in the DNS. If IE or Firefox are
configured to "automatically detect settings," the browser will connect to the proxy machine.

Now that we're all waiting for the final version of Windows 7 to be released later this year, there are some important dates to remember if
you're still using Windows 7 Beta 1. If you downloaded and installed Windows 7 Beta 1 build 7000 back in January, your computer is going to start
shutting down every two hours starting June 1st, 2009 until August 1st, 2009 when your computer will become non-functional. Microsoft sent a e-mail to
all participants in the public beta stating: "We're sending this mail to remind you that Windows 7 Release candidate is available and to make
sure you plan ahead for when the Beta expires on August 1, 2009.
