themselves to force Microsoft to change its policy of dumping XP out of retail from June 30th 2008, by

demanding an extension. Never mind the fact that Microsoft has thus far extended almost every version of Windows past its original "expiry" date,
with possibly, the exception of Windows ME!
It has found somewhere in the region of 75,000 people who have yet to buy it, or want the
opportunity to buy it whenever they please. I suppose this was to be expected bearing in mind that this is the first ever client version of Windows
that is based on the very stable NT core, it can't be compared to Windows 98 which was truly annoying for its lack of stability. Anyone who has XP
installed probably doesn't need to upgrade, since the OS operates so well.
How dare Microsoft offer a new OS after 7 years!

is a waste of time. Actually, that's me usually...
The history here goes back to problems we had form the split we had when we broke
Windows XP from Windows Server 2003 (WS03) way back in 2000.
At the time we had Windows 2000 (Win2k) out in the market & it was being very
well received. Especially on the client side which was doing well with corporate desktops. At the same time in the consumer side, we had Windows ME.
I never worked on WinME, I have never installed it, & I know nothing about it except what people have told me. I removed what i really think. If you
meet me, feel free to ask.

Gartner research published this
month found the server OS market shaping up as a battle between Windows Server and Linux. Gartner in other research also has found both OSes on a
growth track in terms of revenue. "There still seems to be plenty of robust interest in deploying on Windows, but Linux is still very key," says
Gartner analyst George Weiss.

Microsoft appears to be looking for new ways to tie Windows Mobile phones and Zune media players together, although a Zune phone remains unlikely.
Over the weekend, Microsoft developer "Mel" asked an open question on the Windows Mobile blog: "What are some ways the Zune player and a Windows
Mobile device can work better together?"
Since then, more than 50 commenters have suggested ways that Microsoft might converge the two
devices. The most common idea is to essentially replace the Windows Media Player on Windows Mobile devices with Zune software. "I proposed that WMP
should be fazed out in favor of a combined WMP/Zune player which will synch with both Windows Media AND Zune, instead of having to have two separate
apps with two different libraries for each device," wrote one commenter using the name Colin Walker.

We talked about the
Windows
Server 2008 Startup Processes in an earlier post. SMSS.EXE is still the first user-mode process created during the boot process as in previous
versions of Windows. The change is that now SMSS.EXE launches a second instance of itself to configure Session 0, which is dedicated to system
processes. The instance of SMSS.EXE dedicated to Session 0 launches the Windows Startup Application (WININIT.EXE) as well as an instance of CSRSS.EXE
for Session 0, after which it exits. WININIT.EXE continues the startup process by starting SERVICES.EXE and LSASS.EXE as well as a new process, the
Local Session Manager (LSM.EXE) which manages Terminal Server connections for the machine.

receiving much positive feedback than expected from the beta testers, we had Long Zheng and Rafael, two Windows enthusiasts, come with a proof that
malware can turn off UAC in Windows 7. Later Microsoft responded insisting that this is by design and actually not a bug. Later, again, we had Zheng
and Rafael come out with a second flaw which showed Windows 7 UAC was still flawed. At this time, everybody thought Microsoft had done the right thing
with Windows Vista UAC and compromised security over consumers' feedback in Windows 7.
