When will you get Windows 7 RTM?

Concurrent programming is in demand. More programs are communicating with Web services. Fundamental limitations in physics are dictating a move to multicore chips that enable many processes to run in parallel. Theres no turning back.

Enter Dryad.

śThe Dryad project,ť says Michael Isard, senior researcher for Microsoft Research Silicon Valley, śis trying to make it easier to write programs that can run over very large collections of computers, both efficiently and reliably.ť

Survey: Windows loses ground with developers

Microsoft's Windows platform is losing traction as a target for application developers in North America but still is the dominant platform, according to Evans Data survey results being released on Tuesday.

A survey this spring of more than 400 developers and IT managers in North America found that the number of developers targeting Windows for their applications declined 12 percent from a year ago. Just 64.8 percent targeted the platform as opposed to 74 percent in 2006.

"We attribute largely to the increase in developers beginning to target Linux and different Linux . Both Novell and Red Hat are the two dominant ones right now," said John Andrews, the CEO of Evans Data. ..

OEMs Pick Up Windows 7 RTM Code Today in Redmond

Brandon LeBlanc: When we announced Windows 7 had RTMd on Wednesday, I posted that OEMs would receive the RTM code within a few days. Well, its been a few days! Earlier today, a handful of OEMs arrived in Redmond to pick up their RTM code. In the past when a Windows release reaches RTM, we have traditionally given some/selected OEMs the opportunity to come to Redmond and pick up the RTM code personally. I thought it would be neat to showcase these OEMs that came to campus today as the RTM code is handed off to them to begin preparing for General Availability (GA) on October 22, 2009!
