05.09.2008Microsoft readying RC of Vista SP2 for February 2009
Citing a source at Microsoft, Techarp has revealed that Microsoft is targeting a release candidate (RC) version of Windows Vista SP2 for February
2009. Microsoft sent invites to testers in mid October asking them to take part in the SP2 beta. Build 16489 was released to special group of testers
in late October but Microsoft has been quiet since then. TechArp also believes the RTM of Vista SP2 will be in April 2009. Microsoft is readying SP2
so there are additional incentives for customers to upgrade to Window Vista now, instead of waiting for Windows 7.

Microsoft has disclosed a bug in the Service Pack 2 update to SharePoint Server 2007 that causes the application to expire after 180 days.
The flaw improperly resets the product expiration date for the widely used program as if it was a trial installation, a SharePoint VP
says here.
It affects anyone who has installed SP2 on Office SharePoint Server 2007, Project Server 2007, Form Server 2007, Search Server 2008, and Search Server
2008 Express.

available for the trim server
option, joining Internet

other common, unattended role

addition may be both welcome
and extremely important for
enterprises working to create
homogeneity of services where
heterogenous (OS-specific)
applications are deployed. Now
SUSE Linux and other systems
can be hosted by servers that
don't need to waste space
managing Windows printer and
display drivers, such as
DirectX and Direct3D, when
they're not ever going to be
used there anyway.
Monday's announcement
referred to IIS7 as the
seventh Server Core role. Yes,
we're keeping count, and no,
you're not asleep. There is
indeed an eighth role, and
based on the graph we saw this
morning, Windows Media
Services is that #8 role. This
will enable an unattended
server to stream media, even
though it's not necessary for
that server to display or play
that media locally...

change is global to the system. The color of any particular window glass frame can not be set by choice. But, how about being able to change the
color/opacity level of a the glass frame of any application through defined events or commands? According to a Patent number 7418668:

09.09.2008How to fix Vista's network bottlenecks
As much as I enjoy using Vista, I've definitely noticed that in some networking activities, it definitely seems to struggle. Particularly compared
with Windows XP.
For the most part it's not a problem - I just assumed that Vista's beefy network stack was responsible, and made a
mental note to fix it at some point. And then forgot.
But recently I encountered a really frustrating problem. Using Remote Desktop
Protocol (RDP) to connect from a Vista Enterprise machine to a Windows 2003 server, the performance was so woeful that I was starting to worry whether
there was a problem with the server.
As it happens, my fears about the server were unfounded, but the thought that Vista's networking
stack was to blame turned out to be correct. The Next Generation TCP/IP stack in Windows Vista supports something called Receive Window Auto-Tuning.
This is nothing to do with the RDP "window" you see on the screen, but rather a TCP buffer which TCP/IP clients use to ensure smooth
transmission.

IDC’s server breakdown for the first quarter of 2009. There’s
seemingly no silver lining: Revenues for all server types were down 24.5 percent, compared with the year-ago quarter, to $9.9 billion. Unit shipments
were down 26.5 percent compared to Q1 1008, to 1,485,490 units.
