Windows 7 Build 7127 Is Live
Windows 7 RC's public availability might have slowed Microsoft down a tad when it comes to the development process of the next iteration of Windows 7, but the Redmond company has rapidly gained back any lost momentum.

12.6.2009Windows 7 build 7127 leaked
Redmond is still running low on Joe the plumbers as another Windows 7 leak surfaces today. This time around it's the second RTM branch build to
leak, 7127. Approximately a month after 7106 leaked. The build string is 7127.0.090507-1820 meaning it was compiled just over a week ago so it's
still fresh off the blocks. Microsoft is progressing steadily with the RTM branch and company insiders have indicated the software giant is well on
target to finalise the RTM build over the summer. Our guess? Late June or early July. Microsoft is expected to announce general availability of
Windows 7 for before the Christmas period, cashing in on holiday PC purchasers.

15.05.2009Remaining Ultimate Extra Language Packs Released
We are pleased to announce the release of the remaining 19 languages packs for Windows Vista Ultimate. This Ultimate Extras release brings the total
number of language packs for use with Windows Vista Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI) to 35. Windows Vista Ultimate enables users install
multiple languages on their system and quickly switch between them by associating a system language with their login name.
MUI is
particularly useful in multilingual homes where multiple people use a single computer and choose different languages for their primary use. People who
wish to learn a new language will also find MUI to be a particularly useful feature. We are aware of a very large number of customers who have
purchased Ultimate for this feature specifically and are gratified that these customers can now realize the full benefit of Windows Vista Ultimate.
The languages we are adding today are as follows...

28.02.2008AMD release OpenGL ES 2.0 emulator for the PC
AMD have released an emulation
environment for developers to
start creating OpenGL ES 2.0
applications using the PC,
before their supporting
hardware in the handheld space
starts to ship.
From the
emulator's
page on
ati.amd.com/developer:
"AMDs
OpenGL ES 2.0 Emulator is
designed to emulate
functionality that will be
exposed by future mobile AMD
hardware. The purpose of this
emulator is to aid developers
in their design of OpenGL ES
2.0 games and applications.
The emulator allows developers
to get a head start designing
their graphics code before
hardware supporting OpenGL ES
2.0 is available, and even
after this hardware becomes
available developing on a PC
is often advantageous due to
superior developer and
debugging tools."
Currently
the emulator only runs on
Windows XP, and it requires
SM2.0 hardware as a minimum
for acceleration. It supports
EGL 1.3, requires Visual
Studio 2005 to be installed
and AMD recommend the latest
Catalyst driver release for
best results. They haven't
tested on the competitor's
hardware yet.

09.10.2008Seagate Announces two new 1TB Drives
Seagate has unveiled two new
hard drive lines that both
offer a maximum 1TB capacity:
the Barracuda 7200.11
(consumer) and the Barracuda
ES.2 (enterprise). Expect both
to arrive sometime this
quarter and note that Seagate
prices the consumer 1TB HDD at
an MSRP of $399. As with
other Seagate drives, the new
Barracuda 7200.11 and ES.2
come with five year
warranties.
Seagate
packs the 1TB Barracuda
7200.11 with 32MB of L2 cache,
SATA 3.0Gbps and native
command queuing support. The
Barracuda 7200.11 makes use of
four 250GB platters with
second-generation
perpendicular magnetic
recording technology. The
company claims the new
Barracuda 7200.11 can sustain
a 105MB/s data rate and only
draws 8-watts during idle as
well as 11.6-watts during
seek. Acoustically, the
Barracuda 7200.11 generates
around 27-to-29 decibels of
noise during idle and seeking
tasks. Seagate also offers the
Barracuda 7200.11 in 750GB
(three platters) and 500GB
(two platters) sizes with the
same 32MB buffer and PMR
technology.
Seagate's new Barracuda
ES.2 models are offered with
serial attached SCSI, or SAS,
interfaces. Seagate has also
raised the MTBF rating of the
Barracuda ES.2 to 1.2 million
hours, up 200 thousand hours
from the previous Barracuda
ES.

28.05.2009Happy birthday, x86! An industry standard turns 30
Thirty years ago, on June 8, 1978, Intel Corp. introduced its first 16-bit microprocessor, the 8086, with a splashy ad heralding "the dawn of a new
era." Overblown? Sure, but also prophetic. While the 8086 was slow to take off, its underlying architecture -- later referred to as x86 -- would
become one of technology's most impressive success stories.
"X86" refers to the set of machine language instructions that
certain microprocessors from Intel and a few other companies execute. It essentially defines the vocabulary and usage rules for the chip. X86
processors -- from the 8086 through the 80186, 80286, 80386, 80486 and various Pentium models, right down to today's multicore chips and processors
for mobile applications -- have over time incorporated a growing x86 instruction set, but each has offered backward compatibility with earlier members
of the family.

05.06.2008Vista SP1 x86 appears on Torrent Sites
In the last few days, certain Neowin forum members have reported that an image of Vista SP1 x86 Final has leaked to torrent sites. This file is
supposedly a slipstreamed image of the final Service Pack 1 for Vista x86. It is allegedly available in various languages, including English. Since
many believe that this is indeed the download that Microsoft will provide in the upcoming weeks, I would like to emphasize that this is not the case.
This release is not official, nor is it genuine. I repeat: Vista SP1 has not gone final.
Neowin members are reporting that the file in
question may be SP1 Refresh 2 slipstreamed or simply a malware-filled release. I would like to remind our members not to post links to any Vista SP1
build, unless it comes directly from Microsoft’s servers.

28.01.2008Sun releases Java Enterprise System 5.0
Sun Microsystems has released
a new version of its Java
Enterprise System (Java ES)
set of subscription-based
enterprise middleware with the
emphasis on making the
offering more modular. The
vendor unveiled Java ES 5.0
Thursday, the first major
release of the bundle since
October 2005. The offering
brings Sun's infrastructure
software, support and training
together into a single product
and is aimed at companies
looking to purchase the
vendor's middleware at a
gradual, predictable rate.
Java ES is also available in
the form of individual
software suites known
collectively as Java System
Suites.
"Java ES
5.0 continues a lot of what we
started four years ago," said
Jim McHugh, vice president of
software infrastructure at
Sun. In 2003, the vendor
introduced what became Java ES
as Project Orion as a way for
customers to buy an integrated
middleware stack made
available on a regular
quarterly release cycle. Users
can begin by buying the Java
ES 5.0 Base for $100 per
employee per year, which
includes Sun's application,
portal, and Web servers, and
then choose to add on
subscriptions for Sun's Java
System Identity Manager or its
Java Composite Application
Platform Suite (Java CAPS).
Adding in identity management
brings the annual cost per
user to $140, which then
increases to $200 when
Java CAPS is also included.

02.03.2007Windows XP SP3 Released To Small Group (Updated)
In addition to the
previously
reported Windows Vista SP1
drop to testers, Microsoft
has just recently (few days
ago) dropped a copy of Windows
XP Service Pack 3 in the lap
of the same small group of
testers.
Coming in at less than
350MB, the service pack
includes fixes for over 900
reported problems, some of
which have already been
resolved with post-Service
Pack 2 hotfixes.
For the hardcore
build string collectors, this
build is tagged 5.1.2600.3180
(xpsp.070718-2058) (Thanks
again C).
Given the close proximity
of the two betas we guestimate
both 'packs will be released
simultaneously. We'll let you
know if we hear of a more
solid release date.

07.08.2007First Preview of CRM 4 by Stunware.com
Michael introduces the world to Microsoft Dynamics 4.0 aka Titan in his
A first preview of Microsoft Dynamics CRM "Titan".
There you can read a lot more about the three major improvements
in this new release:
- Multi-Tenancy: A CRM server now can host multiple organizations. This is extremely important for service providers, as
they had to run a server for each CRM organization so far. Microsoft itself is going to provide a hosted CRM solution with CRM Live, but many partners
will pop up in the near future offering the same to you. It is a good alternative to an on-premise installation when you're a small company or your
employees are spread around the world and you want to easily connect them without building your own infrastructure with 24/7 support.
-
Multi-Language: You can now install MUI packs on your CRM server and clients to support additional languages. Being limited to a single language in
the past, a user now can select from a list of available languages and pick his favorite one. The installation of a MUI package is a no-brainer and
additional languages are set up in about 5 minutes.
- Multi-Currency: All currency fields now store the value in the system's base
currency and optionally a foreign currency including the exchange rate. Exchange rates have to be configured at the server. There's no historical
list of exchange rates kept, so I'm pretty sure to see add-ons soon. Anyway it's a big improvement compared to 3.0, where we have been limited to a
single currency.

from 1.0 to 1.8 GHz. These kinds of ultra-thin, low-voltage processors are aimed at ultraportable notebooks and ultramobile PCs. The Nano processors

17.07.2008IBM, HP lead server market thanks to x86 sales
IBM edged out
Hewlett-Packard in
first-quarter server revenue
as both companies relied on a
rebound in sales of x86-based
computers, according to a
market report released
Tuesday.
X86
server sales had been sluggish
in the fourth quarter as
buyers used efficient
virtualization technology and
slowed their buying cycles to
wait for the arrival of
quad-core processors,
according to the report from
Gartner. That trend ended in
the first three months of 2007
as global server revenue rose
4.5 percent over its level in
the same period last year,
reaching $12.9 billion.
The number of servers
shipped by all vendors
actually rose faster than
revenue, up 6 percent to 2.1
million units. But intense
competition in the market for
RISC and Itanium-based servers
forced prices down, Gartner
analyst Jeffrey Hewitt said in
the report. ..
