Windows 7 RC's public availability might have slowed Microsoft down a tad when it comes to the development process of the next iteration of Windows 7, but the Redmond company has rapidly gained back any lost momentum.

Microsoft's Big Bet: Win Within the Web
Although the latest version of Microsoft Windows is more than six months from shipping, company brass already have christened Vista as the best and biggest Windows release since Windows 95.
The company is making bold predictions, claiming Vista will be preloaded on as many as 200 million new personal computers in the first 24 months that the product is available. Windows 95 shipped on a mere 67 million new PCs during its first two years. These numbers are important. The prospects of nearly every product Microsoft makes ride on maintaining the ubiquity of Windows, which has in excess of 90 percent of the PC operating system market. It's been five years since the current Windows version was released, and Windows XP now is looking rather dated.

3.4.2006Windows 7 build 7127 leaked
Redmond is still running low on Joe the plumbers as another Windows 7 leak surfaces today. This time around it's the second RTM branch build to
leak, 7127. Approximately a month after 7106 leaked. The build string is 7127.0.090507-1820 meaning it was compiled just over a week ago so it's
still fresh off the blocks. Microsoft is progressing steadily with the RTM branch and company insiders have indicated the software giant is well on
target to finalise the RTM build over the summer. Our guess? Late June or early July. Microsoft is expected to announce general availability of
Windows 7 for before the Christmas period, cashing in on holiday PC purchasers.

13.02.2006Trojan Exploits Obama Presidential Win
President-elect Barack Obama is already targeted as the subject of a malicious malware campaign designed to steal information from infected computers.
Following Obama's presidential victory Tuesday, malware authors were quick to create a Trojan exploiting the high volumes of Web traffic

And so far, researchers say that spam capitalizing on Obama's victory has experienced a sharp
upward spike, comprising about 60 percent of all spam messages in what has become a globalized attack. "The hackers are taking advantage of
Obama-mania," said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for SophosLabs. "So many people have been excited or interested in (the election),
that they might be susceptible to it."

31.07.2007Sony CEO sees 'stalemate' in disc fight
The head of Sony Corp., Howard Stringer, said Thursday that the Blu-ray disc format the company has developed as the successor to the DVD is in a
"stalemate" with the competing HD DVD format, chiefly backed by Toshiba Corp. and Microsoft Corp.
"It's a difficult fight,"
said Stringer, speaking at the 92nd Street Y cultural center in Manhattan.
Toshiba has been selling its players for as low as
$200 heading into the holiday season, while Blu-ray players cost more than twice as much. The HD DVD camp also scored a significant win in August,
when it induced Paramount Pictures to drop most of its support for Blu-ray and put out high-definition movies exclusively on HD DVD.
"We were trying to win on the merits, which we were doing for a while, until Paramount changed sides," Stringer said.

09.11.2007MP3 Blogs Offer File Sharing Even the RIAA Could Love
Although the term "file sharing" has all sorts of ugly connotations, it's not necessarily a bad thing. In some cases, it's even a win-win-win
situation for the recording industry, music lovers -- and Google.
There are countless MP3 file-sharing sites that don't look
anything like BitTorrent or Lime Wire. They're low-key, homegrown blogs that don't host illicitly copied music, but do provide links to third-party
sites, or storage lockers, such as
Megashare, where pirated music is stored. These
bloggers do it for the love of the music, they say, but it doesn't hurt that they make a little money from advertising along the way.

28.04.2009Microsoft targets Oracle licensing to win customers
The forthcoming launch of SQL Server 2008 will see Microsoft focus its considerable resources on the issue of licensing, to win customers from rivals
Oracle and IBM.
Speaking to ZDNet Australia's Sister site ZDNet.co.uk, Microsoft's UK marketing director for databases, Matt
Dunstan (pictured), said: "Our challenge, now we have picked off a lot of the low-hanging fruit, is to attack the traditional Oracle
strongholds."
Dunstan, who is in charge of the battle with Oracle and IBM, said Microsoft will exploit weaknesses it sees in
Oracle's licensing and treatment of its customers. It is a bold strategy from a company that has itself frequently been pilloried for its licensing
policies, but Dunstan clearly thinks Oracle's licensing is a weak spot.
